Hi Guys!
Here is a article I did about six years back, that was never published.
This was when Frikkie Botha form Problades and I met up and he gave me some spinnerbaits to field test.
Notice the "boep" ...there I still weiged 103kgs...before the resession! LOL
A HOT WINTERS MORNING! by Herman Nel
On the last Saturday of May my good fishing buddy Chris and I decided to test a newly " organized " Lowveld private dam and some new spinnerbaits
We got delayed a bit and only arrived at the dam around 10:20 AM, and decided to rather concentrate on finding features and hotspots for the coming spring.
To our amazement the water temp was around 18 degrees - still warm enough to fish!
We quickly launched the boat and tied on our spinnerbaits.
I opted for a orange & brown skirt with golden blades and Chris went with a white & chartreuse twin spin golden blades
On my 5th cast I got a slight tap...probably a "small short striker".
I adjusted the bait a bit by putting on a trailer, simply consisting of a shortened 5" Zoom Dinger watermelon seed / red flake with the tip of the tail dipped in Spike-it garlic chartreuse.
I figured that the bit bulkier bait would be easier to inhale for a bass , eliminating short strikes.( I would also opt for a trailer hook , but I'm not a big fan of this practice as it increases the odds of snagging on structure a lot )
We moved on a bit and on the first cast with the bulkier bait I got a very aggressive strike in heavy structure followed by a big leaping head shaking Florida Bass of about 3 to 4 kilos!
Unfortunately on the second jump the fish shook me off.
Buddy Chris then hooked into another very energetic jumping fish on the Twin spin White & Chartreuse and landed it.
The weight 3.450 kgs.

After Chris landed his fish I took one of my other rods rigged with a white & chartreuse skirt and also bulked it up with a Dinger watermelon seed / red flake with the tip of the tail dipped in Spike-it garlic chartreuse.
I noticed a barbed wire fence line that runs into the dam and cast that bulkier spinnerbait out and counted to 5…
As soon as I started to reel in I felt a “tap-tapâ€, followed by a solid hit!
After a battle of about 2 minutes the fish was in the boat.
The weight 3.010 kgs.

A while later Chris hooked into another bass of about 1.2kgs.

We left the dam at 13:30 very happy with the new water and impressed by our new baits!
