For Conventional and Competitive fishing.
0.8 hooks vs. 1.0 hooks

Well u checked what happened on the koppies weekend, i saw what happened at the heartsease day comp as well. i personally wont fish with 0.8 anymore, i find that from using the #1 im not loosing as many fish any more compared to the 0.8, but thats just my opinion ey

I wouldn't bother with 0.8. I know Schalk van Breda always gives positive comments on them but i seem to loose too many fish with them.

I prefer the 0,8 hooks as I feel they give me a better bait presentation than a 1,0 hook. Its just my personal opinion though and I think it comes down to personal preference. Also, if you don't have confidence in your tackle/equipment you will end up losing more fish.

I think this is going to be very much a personal choice on hook size. Use both see what one YOU like fishing with and go from there. Just because some one tells you something or this is right and that is wrong doesnt make it right or wrong. Personally i like to experiment and find what feels right for mee.

Again, as it has been mentioned it's personal choice, but for me 0.8s are the way to go. Just feel a lot more confident with them, the small profile and more sensitive presentation does the trick for me!

On a Rietvlei trace try using a #1 hook on the bottom and a 0.8 hook on the top. If the fish prefer the smaller presentation they will take the top hook. This will give you an indication of what to use on the day...

you need to take in to consideration the make of the hook and the thickness of the steel of the hook as well.

Each manufacturers hooks will vary in size and thickness.

sometimes the fish prefers the #0.8 over #1 .

With experience and trial en error ,i have found that todays choice will defer tomorrow, so rather be prepared for any occassion especially when you fishing competitive.

Rather have traces of both size hooks to be on the safe side.

Competitive is totally different to social .
