Holiday started a bit late this year as we only arrived at Mile 108 on the 10th of December.
Set up camp, got all the gear sorted, for the fishing would start the next day.
Better weather could not be asked for, not the normal cold misty days but sunshine throughout the holiday.
Fishing was great right up to the 23rd of December. Cob, Galjoen and Steenbra were caught in big numbers.
Very, very few cob under the 50cm mark was caught. Steenbra ranged from anything between 2 and 5kg.
Galjoen were plenty, numerous over the the 1kg mark was caught with the biggest being 1.7kg. For our coast that is already in the upper class size.
Smaller Spotties, Smooth hound, Lesser sandshark and St Joseph's were also in abundance.
On the 23rd a semi red tide (Zoa plankton bloom) reached us and the fish disappeared. You were lucky to catch 2 of anything a day. Fish were few and spread very far (distance) apart.
Most of the Cob was caught on pilchard with a piece of chokka added. Steenbra, either took white mussel or pilchard ( inside out). All the Galjoen were caught on white mussel.
