HOLE IN THE WALL

Howdy all, I am feeling a rather strong urge for "retail therapy" coming on. Me and Patrick are going to Hole in the wall on the 6th October (Sealine birthday bash!).

My plan of action is to concentrate more on chucking spoons, poppers and plugs for anything from elf, cob and who knows, maybe a kingy??

I have 3 spinning setups being 6ft, 7ft and 8ft rods with matched reels. My gutfeel tells me I need something in the 9ft to 10ft or even longer for spinning off the side.

Then in terms of lures I need to buy a whole bunch each of the ones listed above.

Can anyone help with more suggestions / tips and info please? I have not even considered soft plastics but that is also an option. I quite like the look of the plastic baitfish I have seen in the shops.

Hello Mate

I am in the market for the same sort of thing. Rod to look out for is the Shimano Tiralejo. Comes in all lengths and strengths. I have a 10 000 size reel that I am looking to pair it with. Nepps and Royboy bring in some fine rods. Apparently a batch of good stuff to be hear shortly. Check their website for details.

There should be good Garrick and cob at that time. Chisel nose plugs (Wayne Stanley type) work well for garrick. Spoon for cob is Ashley Read Mini round back 100g. Also look at throwing weighted rapala or Halco Max for cob in the surf and river mouths. Can try both at Umtata and Coffee Bay.

Kind regards

Anton

Thanks Anton - saw the Tiralejo or whatsisname at FS last week. I might go for the Exage but I'm still thinking about another rod - I'm hoping my PENN 8ft will be sufficient.
I think we will target the rivers and their mouths as much as possible.
How does the weighted Rapala work? Do you simply crimp some lead to the front hook? That would be my guess.
Come sealiners, are sharks the only reason any of you go to the Transkei??

Will... just to let you know... there will be a GREAT prize for any fish caught on Artificials at the Birthday Bash... Dropshot, spinning or whatever... so bring it on!

Willie - Weighted Rapalas in the mouth and off the beach at night....

Get some lead solder wire and wrap the shank of the trebles.... Will help casting distance, and sinking... Gooi and let sink, and retrieve as S....L.....O....W....L.....Y as you can....

Bucktails, plastics, chisel nose as Anton mentioned... Slim Spoons, talk to Marshie, he should be able to help you with those...

Smaller sinking rapala type swimming plugs for the estuaries and river mouths could also see the Kobs attention on the lighter tackle too...

Plastics - Look at minnows and paddle tail shads...

Once, A. I got a few of these and I'm very keen to try them - especially for tail, bek and cob this season.

Reefz thanks - if I get any more amped, I'm going to burst at the seams, so further encouragement is probably not a good thing at the moment!! ::S

Is there perhaps a way to make the Rapala snag-free by changing the hook arrangement? without upsetting any action of course. I'll try changing the hooks on one to singles that are slightly closed up and then weighting it.
