Xerxes, the snoek fishing was actually quite poor at Robben Island. My commercial crew, fishing on a friends boat, only had 60 snoek on board. The best catches were made by the 4-6man commercial boats, who had up to 100 snoek on board. The real "dik" was at Saldahna though. My friends were getting up to 120snoek PER MAN, with the 10man commercial boats bringing in well over 1100 snoek per boat.........
Anycase, with our trip only three days away, i thought i'd let you guys salivate a bit more!

Guys, I've got some pilchards too and will see if i can get some chokka for us as well. Or as Miles suggested we could try get some early from the boat. Last time I was at Buffels bay on the ski there was plenty about.
I reckon a spinning outfit is the way too go. Light enough for the bottom stuff and also great if we encounter any shoals we may want to chuck a spoon at (being optermistic here..)

apparently there were plenty snoek at buffels on Tuesday, and throwing a spoon in the water resulted in an "ON" almost immediately, one thing to note is that the guy who told me this (who fishes competetively and commercially) said that on handlines he couldnt get 4 or 5 of the fish to the boat, they were just too big, and when he pulled harder the hook pulled thru the mouth of the snoek, he said he hasnt seen such big ones before
