Hiya Guys,

With KT in the shop I had the morning free for some fishing. My daughter was doing a scholl beach clean day at small surf so we arranged to wet a line at Ruby's wall.

Not an early start...at 7am I dropped off Miss Trophy Jnr and met JL in the SAMREC parking. He produces a trace I last left in his water bucket after the RASSPL...perfect Hottie trace all ready! LoL

We get down to Ruby's and find some chaps already on the left wall so we go right. East wind is pumping and lots of weed in the water. First cast trace snagged and gone! Second cast snagged and trace gone!!

Third cast lies without any action...same with DL. We see the fellas opposite us getting a few small Blacktail and the spot envy starts. About a hour later with no bites and alot of weed I notice that two of the other fishermen are packing up so I make my move to the left wall while DL waits out his last cast.

Bait up with a paternoster double hook trace using my new favourite hook....Ryochi size 9. White Mussel in and two sconds later I get a good pull and then slack. Lift the rod and feel a nice sized fish! I'm on my 10ft rod with a GrandWave 20 filled with braid. Hook snoods and trace is 0.50 Awa Shima Big Game. Easy does it!

Get it in shallow and I see a nice scrapped sized Cracker...great fun on the setup!

THe other two chaps leave and DL joins me on the wall. Plenty of the small tooth brigade around and baits are lasting seconds in the water.

Wind is now pumping even stronger and trying to light a cig became an impossible task between DL and myself. In the process DL manages to drop his lighter off the wall and into the water. So its down to me to get a lite.

I tuck my rod into my arm and as I try get the damm thing lit I feel my rod pulling towards the water! Lift the rod and tight with a nice fish.

After a short tussle I get to see a nice fat Blue fish coming over the scattered reefs. This one went back to the braai tonight!

After this a few more cast and then off to find my daughter and home. Lekker morning fishing with a couple of hard fighting fish.

...DL revenge for the Pier the other day, what channel were you watching on TV today!:fbash

See you got different braid on the 20 now (where's the depth meter and what braid on now?)
i

Hiya Enigam,

Ja the multi colour braid lasted along while, but eventually wore down enough to warrant replacement. I loaded the GrandWave 20 with Africast 50 Lb braid and DL used the leftover for his Torium 14.

So far so good...been a few months and honestly I cant complain. For a 'budget' braid its tops for light scratching setup and def gives the angler an advantage over mono. You feel every nip and tug...I can actually feel the small tooth brigade as they nibble the bait off a size 9 hook!

When the bigger fish bite its scary just how accurate you fish with braid as a main line! All the rubbish you read about casting braid on a multiplier is just that...rubbish!

I'm enjoying my Ed's fishing again... Scratching for fish is so much fun on the braid mainline.

Watch this space this summer!

Congrats on some lekka catches there, it does make a huge difference hunting eds with braid, difficult to tell someone the difference if he hasn't tried it himself.

What's the dia of the Africast 50lb, and is it a bonded braid?

Hiya Koper,

It's a 0.32mm diameter at 50lb, and its not bonded. Africast has a nice tight weave to the braid thats why Irecon itslasted on thereel so well.

Thanks for coming back to me. I am spending next week-end there. Maybe also go up to  Canon Rocks, but do not know that area too well.

I was thinking white mussels and Pink Prawn. Will have the ever available pilchard and chokka as well.

Regards
