HIya Guys,

Some of you may know that I have a few pet hates! LoL

The biggest has to be TAXES paid to our Government and the second remains that the laws of this country are not fairly carried accross to all!

Our traffic departments...are hard at work using my TAXES to generate virtual entrapment money through speeding fines. These plumbs are worse than vultures as they wait in the most amazing places for 'donations'. They could just move a few Km's down the road and concentrate on the bigger issues that effect the hazards on our roads. Hhhhmmm.

But what tickles me pink is that illegal poaching and the sale of this 'bounty' happens right under their noses. Check the pic of the BMW buying fish 50m from the cops.

I did not get a ticket as I know know that these vultures prey on us at the Fish River bridge, but stopped to question the officers why they have done nothing to stop or report the poaching or illegal selling of fish? An event that happens day in and day out.

You will love this..."Sorry Sir we are to busy, busy making fines! Its our job to make money here, not to stop criminals" And thats a direct quote! LoL

Did I mention you get a R1500 fine for travelling 101km/ph through this 1,5km long 80km/ph zone!

Classice business they have got going there...wonder if they get fish and chips on the job! LoL

The guys selling know that they are illegal...just try pointing a camera at them and watch them scatter.

Ag Ray,

Its always the small things in life that bug me. Only because they can be easily fixed? If not fixed they lead to the bigger problems.

I have a plan though...next time I pass there I'm going to stop and load all the catch and simply drive away without payment.

Prob find the Cops will chase me down for theft! LoL

Maybe all Sealine blokes that travel between PE and EL should do the same. I'm not a big fish eater, but Grunter make for the best shark baits!

A few pet peeves we have in common then eh Brett ..

Have often done it - the hit and run that is.. Those blokes that come with the "free" sunglasses or ID Book holders. They quick to push it in the window and state its free, then require a 'donation' of sorts. A well timed negotiation and the inevitable green light gets my daughter a  free pair of sunnies ..

Do we place our order for Grunter heads with you now or you going to let us know when you got.. :spite

These people deserve the same fate as that abalone poacher up in Dwesa. Everyone knows about these clowns, and yet all those inspectors who get paid to sit in an aircon office all day will never come out and organize a bust with the cops. and that is what is upsetting to me.

Well Done Brett, I absolutely agree with you and as a business owner the distribution of the tax we pay is a very sore point.

Respect to you for stopping and exposing this. Myself and most others just drive past and complain.

I don't really blame the guy selling the fish as much as I blame the goverment.I mean if I was that guy and new nobody was going to stop me and this was a way to provide for my family I would probably do the same thing.Goverment needs to get of there behinds and create some jobs in the area that's the only way you going to stop this.I must say I have more sympathy with these guys than the weekend fisherman that doesn't stick to bag or size limits.A special mention must also be made for the ahole buying the fish!Don't get me wrong in no way do I think what they doing is right or that they shouldn't be stopped!!!Makes me bloody mad to!

The truth is that those traffic police have as much right to arrest those guys as you and I. Perhaps a call to MCM would have been more effective than a post on Sealine. *just saying*

It is most upsetting to see this happen but a thousand ticked off forum members are less effective than a single hard arsed conservationist on a mission.

SA should implement the same system as a part of Italy does.

Traffic officers gets paid a bonus (sliding scale) on traffic fines issued.

Our cops could then still make the same money legally than what they make on the side with bribes.

And YES I agree, 1 x active guy is whats needed, and also agree, the system is just as much to blame for not enforcing its own laid down laws.

Hiya Craig,

You would think...right?

I tried to find the post or thread I made about a year ago when I was stopped and fined for speeding at Fish River Bridge, but could not find it!

If you read that post it went something like this...

While waiting in que to get my ticket a uniformed officer from MCM arroached me to requesta search of my vehicle for Perlemoen. Before he could get his next word in I questioned him regarding the same fellas selling their Grunter 50 meters away.

His reply was that he could not stop them because they run away! An arguement followed where I refused to allow him to check my vehicle and suggested that he should start calling for back-up or start running after the crime happening right under his nose.

Even more strange things followed on that day, but as I could not find the original post I'm not going to recall all the events?

So basically these poaches have a perm camp with structures and tents on the river bank 500m from the bridge. They pump blood worm and prawns, catch fish and sell these every day right under the nose of law enforcement...who are also there almost every day!

Not only have I posted this on Sealine, but I have written to the local news papers, and the traffic department involved. Mouldie has offered to do the same in the Port Alfred region.

I disagree that a traffic officer cannot do anything. They are law enforcement officers and if any other crime was being committed in plain sight they would be expected to act accordingly...right?

*just saying* recon you need to buy me a beer when in PE! LoL

In our local paper the lady that does the fishing report had photos of these guys and she was basically promoting them, saying how good it was that these guys are supporting there families without turning to crime etc.etc.I nearly flipped my lid ,I wrote her a letter with some choice words ,they also sell sand prawn and the ones left over are not put back in the river but dumped in the bush.

A 100m up the road is a satelite SAPS station so these guys drive past everyday and do nothing

You guys miss a small point, we live in South Africa where if you are white you are prosecuted when you try to support your family in doing something like that. But..... if you are of colour, the whole picture change.

Now you are seen as previous disadvantaged, this means your crime is not seen as a crime. You are an entrepeneur.......... Dont know how they manage to get this justified but it happens all over.

Here is a easy way to stop these guys which doesn't cost a cent.Stop buying there fish!Same for the bait collectors stripping swartkops.Always here guys complaining about them but then every time I drive past the swartkops off ramp I see cars stopping and buying bait from them.Makes me so flippen mad. These lazy buggers must just get of there fat arses and pump there own prawn.Take away the demand and the supply will stop.

This thread can get very long if we start talking about what different races get away with.
So I suggest we keep the colour of a persons skin out of it.It is 2012 not 1970

Well there is a whole lot more info than you had in the original post! I was completely unaware of you previous post mentioning the same individuals. My point remains though, they have zero jurisdiction over that crime. You can stand on your head and whistle yankee doodle and it still won't change that! Truth is MCM are a bit clueless and if we want to help to change it they did offer for all of us to become deputies. Those that took up that offer please raise your hands.

Regardless of how hopeless the situation seems to be it is possible to be a part of the solution.
