Now that the fish is nowhere, I've read the Ski-Boat mag tonight with a glass of wine and a tear to the eye. Like reading "the Old man and the Sea".

Gekwoteer uit die Ski-boat mag van Jul/Aug 2011 :

"Live is like a fishing trip, sometimes successful, sometimes less so, it has it joys and disappointments, ecstacy and pain. And win or lose, life must go on."(Dave Rorke)

This catch turned out to be one of the most difficult struggles EVER seen in RSA between a fish and a fisherman.

A 720 pound Marlyn caught with a Penn Senator 12/0 Reel with 18 cord line. After 90min, next to the boat, but then.... 52 times up and down !!!Landed after 15h20min. Unbeliavable story !

Jack's 720+ pound Marlyn must go down as one of the most epic battles ever fought between man and fish, anywhere in the world !

The same angler caught a 71kg Yellowfin from the rocks in False bay - an achievement never to be repeated again !

Man - and we think we had a battle after 60 min with a 80kg+ Yfin ??? We aint know nothing yet...........I'm going to frame this article and keep it with all my fishing stuff. Just as a reminder what fishing is about...

Cheers,

Pieter

Jip Pieter, those guys were the true pioneers of todays Game Fishing.

Busy reading "Game Fishing Transformed"by Charles Horne, amazing book. Makes you wish you lived in those days...

I also have the book. It is fantastic. They were real pioneers, very brave. Today we are all a bit blase about it.
He writes in one of the earlier chapters that in those days when they started running deep, even rounding the point in a small boat was filled with dread and superstition.

Incredible story!
Yip incredible, seems like a lifetime ago. i was 13yrs old when i met the man and was privileged to have fished with him on his ski boat. will never forget going out into the bay for yellow tail he would see the shoal of fish and cast first then only would we be able to cast and catch, reason being he would cast over the shoal and draw the fish allowing us to also get hooked. nicest person i had the privilege to meet.
