RB is about the border for them. They don't really venture much further than that as far as I know.

I find the Bek season coincides with Sardines. Have a good Sardine season and the bek will be thick.

Solution? Circle hooks! Once set, you can do what you want and that fish isn't going anywhere! After trying them once, I will never ever ever ever ever go back to using J-hooks for geelbek. Just make sure you dont strike!

AND you don,t have to fiddle around in THOSE gills for your hook---always in the scissors.
Bennies illustration of the sard lip hooked works just great. Frozen sard works if the peckers are a problem, both geelbek and tail don't seem to mind ice cream headache!!!
