@ Lacost...................ons het regtig gesukkel om livies te kry........as dit nie babers was wat die erwurms gevat het nie, dan klein tiere wat ons ook nie kon vang nie.............dit was n mission.................& onsa wou nie tyd mors om livies te kry nie.............alhoewel dit die beste aas was.
My enigste kommer was/is dat daar gerugte was van iemand wat rode gegaan het en livies verkoop het wat gevang was met n gooinet......................soos ek se.....gerugte maar as dit sou waar wees is dit absolute sport gees.

Lacost, glad you had a good time. I had to "withdraw" due to work commitments(still sitting in the sand dunes), would have loved to be there. Next year.....
Live bait and flap baits are the way to go if you want to get the size fish. That is what we normally use. Live bait is definitely the answer.
Just remember it is illegal to use small live tiger fish as bait as they are now listed as protected and are on the TOPS list
The group I normally go with(about 28 okes) got a best fish on the last day of 5.4kg(wag nog vir n foto) with many others caught and landed.
Next time try the north side of the "mouth" this is normally a lot more productive. The drop-off on that side is much more pronounced as this was the outside bend of the old river course. Where ever you decide to sit you need a drop-off or hole of 6-8 meters, the tigers like to patrol there. Small tigers are abundant in the shallows and grass beds.
Always check weather forecast and stay off the lake if anything south comes up. rather look for sheltered spots just in from the mouth or towards the river.
The river section always produces fish but with levels this low this year could have been a tricky area to fish. I would imagine anything past the cliffs close to the lodge would not have produced.
Many small tigers grab baits and live baits and fail to hook up. If you keep missing strikes and you are in the right spot for big tigers then your trace set-up needs some attention. Hook size, trace length, sinker(if used)etc. Reel drag can also pay a role here depending on the bait you are using.
Glad you enjoyed and I am definitely going next year, will have to make up by doing some practice sessions before then due to missing out this year.

I see the dam is super low 39% at the moment according to DWA web site. So I assume there is no water to speak off in the river section. Last year the dam was at 55% and the river was full of sand banks.
We staying in camp sites 45, 46 and 47 we 3 boats
We will be leaving next week Tuesday Morning very early.
