Hi to all fishers, just want to let you know that the flat sea conditions off the Easten Cape is ideal to roll out the ski's. I went out off J/Bay main beach on 11/12/2008. Paddle out .40 nm in front off the MTN tower and you are on good reef. The morning produced cob, elf and sizable red roman. I got towed around by a greyshark +- 80 kg, saw it and just cut the bugger of. (picture romans)

Hi QS as you know GPS points are secret stuff, give me a call on 0827829903 when you visit the area, there is good close reefs at Marina Mareniqe, Aston Bay and Paradise. Kabeljous good as well but a distant paddle, too close plenty barbel and Shark. Check out our area on GOOGLE EARTH and you can identify reefs.

Hey was wondering if you could give me some advice. Im also in pe and was thinking of getting a macski explorer. Would you recommend them, dont have the cash for a stealth. Whats the handling like in the surf and how far out do you take it.

Know of any decent spots we normaly just go in the bay or bell boy. We only have a feel free gemini at the moment so looking to upgrade.

Hi , the explorer is a very versitile ski , I only go to sea on those perfect flat days.I wont say it s the best ski for big surf, but at sea it s very stable with good storage. What made me go for the explorer was that it can acomidate more than one angler.Me and my kids fish on it in the krom and on dams. For me its more comfterbill to sit in a ski oposed to on top .The explorer is more like the plastic kayaks but faster because of fibre mold.In your area the ski should be fine for flat days to bell boy .flat launch sites nearby ,will be great on swartkops.I would also launch of noorhoekskiboat club.

Hi Rog
why not look at a 2nd Hand Ski ?
every now and then ones comes up on Sealine, normally at about half of what they cost new !

I got myself a ski for about R 3000 last year sometime on Sealine, was for a red and white Erics with a paddle.

About the Macski
I also went and looked at the Macski, no matter what anyone says, it's a copy of the Big Tom, and a very very close copy at that.
I have heard good things and I've heard bad things about them, but such is life, some time some one will be unhappy about a product.

I think they go for about R 5500 - 6000 new at the moment.

But the cost doesn't stop there, you still need a PFD (personal flotation device), some basic safety equipment, a paddle and then roofracks of some sort to transport it.
A trolley also makes it alot easier, but they tend to be very expensive. Check the internet for instructions to make your own trolley.

And NO, mine is not for sale and NO I've not even had it in the water yet, too many Great White Sharks in PE at the moment.

Raka,
nice fish, don't want to offend you or upset you, but would just like to note something

you have a nice kayak, which can be used by 2 people but better suited to calm water and not punching through surf.

THE ONLY REASON I SAY THAT is because there is no storage space to "hide" rods, reels and your other fishing tackle while punching (and capsizing a few time s) through waves.
Other than that it's good. I actually also looked long and hard at one at the Macski sales office in PE.

In jbay at the moment. Kabeljouws small kob and a sh.t load of barbel. Main beach launch I found a reef deeper in with romans, small geelies, the big ones should come trhough there. Still searching for that poens up to 10kg I keep hearing about. I'm not gonna ask for gps markers, cause mine just went through a funeral. Paddleing with the eye and fishfinder, doh! Went to st. Francis yesterday, for sure launching there atleast once this next 2 weeks.
