Fishing knots... used in the right application, most knots will work.... It all depends whether you want the best knot for the situation or are you prepared to compromise... The only knots known to hold 100% of it's line strength is the Bimini Twist and the Cat's paw. So joining lines using these 2 knots would be the IDEAL way to go.
There are several other combinations that work, but have much lower breaking strain. Also, to do a Bimini or a Cats Paw at home is a piece of cake, but on the beach is not so easy. So at home, when you've got the time... don't compromise. But on the beach, the next best way to go is.... to create a double in the fireline with the Spider Hitch (at least 20 loops) ... then join the Fireline to the leader with the YUCATAN knot - also known as the Tony Jones leader knot, the French knot (last month's ESA magazine). Look up the Yucatan/Spider Hitch in our FAQ knots section - it's really easy to do, and works great on braid or fireline.
Hope this helps....
