If your friend wants to go Back line, then yes he or she does need a ticket. That will be a Cat D (5 NM) or a Cat C (15NM).
The duck will also require safety equipment and must have a seaworthy and buoyancy certificate.
You cant contact Annette on 031-4670307, they are based in the Bluff, Durban if you need prices on the skippers courses. The law is getting very strict on the licenses, so the sooner he or she gets it done the better.

For the course they will need 4 ID photo's, copy of their ID and then there are a Medical and eye test form that have to be completed. I hope this helps.

How is the 5nm course? I want to do it hopefully in december, im 16 years old, would I be able to do the course?

Hi.

You can do the Cat D (5Nm) if you are 16 years. All you
need is a valid S.A. Id or passport (temp also acceptable)
4 ID photo's and then a log sheet. You will receive a
medical and eye test form to get completed by the relevant doctors. You will then have to complete the course and the exam. Afterwards you will have to do some launches with an approved SAMSA lecturer. Once that is all done and dusted you will receive a temp ticket. And eventually a permanent one.
