Hi there

I am new to the forum and have found it very helpfull so far.

I am relatively inexperienced in jet-ski fishing. (Sold my ski boat 10 years ago) Bought the jet-ski about 1 year ago. Use it on the dam regularly and have also done a trip to Inhambane.

I am planning a trip to Cape Vidal for my son (12) and myself. I have booked a campsite. 30/11/2010 -4/12/2010.

If there are any fellow jet-ski fisherman in the area, i would appreciate it if I could join up with you. There is also space in my campsite if somebody wants to join us.

I would appreciate a few GPS points as it will be my first time at Vidal.

What color lures seem to work in that area?

I'm in Vidal 1-15 December, think its campsite 6. I'm on my way to Ballito in 4hrs. Taking my ski for a service at Racetech.

Hi Tony,

 

We were at vidal this past weekend and I can tell you you need to go no further than the point. look for live bait for the point north in about 20m of water. then proceed back to infront of the point in 30m of water. hook your live bait cut your motors and drift with the current till about 1km past the light house. we got loads of fish in this area. dorrado, cuta, wahoo, sailfish and tunny.

just pray that the N-S current is screaming and there's a light NE wind with clean warm water and you'll be in for some great fun.

oh and we tried all sorts of lures with absolutly no luck. they would only take the live bait. Mackrelle and Maazbanker.

Just back from 4 days at Vidal. Caught loads of fish all surface lures.

13 x Dorado

7 x Bonita

1 x Couta

1 x Wahoo

1 x Marlin

i just started fishing off a jetski, still Trolling for my 1st pull.......

is 18km/hr fast?  will Surface Lures AND soft heads be pulled @ the same speed ??
is there a fillet bait or a whole bait?? (inside the SoftHEAD)

im still building up my Lure Collection, i think i need to get a few of those softHEADS
Only have a few Magic minows, Trying to catch those Snoek of Tinley Manor ...pulled a few strip baits with Dusters..how fast wud u troll that?

wot Lures wud u Suggest i MUST hav??

Hi there

Everybody has his own way of doing things but here is what i try.

My rule when trolling is to go as fast as possible. Lures seem to work better the faster you go.

For rapalas or sumilar lures i go at about 8-10km/h

For surface lures about 15- 25km/h

With strip baits, dead baits, or live baits i go at idle or drift.

I do not use any bait with a pulsator tipe lure as seen in the pic on this thread.

I is difficult to suggest a lure collection, better advise would be to target a type of fish in the area you fish most, and build your collection around that.

Big Van has a nice post on his lure collection, maybe check that out.
