I know of a place that is selling Tica TC4 rods for R500.

Any other shop will charge you R1300 for the same rod.

In my opinion one of the best rods out there, super sensitive and awesome backbone.

For R500 its a steal.

PM me for details and you might save a few bucks

But then again,

I would not reccomend a baitcaster setup for a startup.

A propper koffie-grinder with a spinning rod will do just fine to install the confidence needed for bass fishing.

My reccomendation would be,

Tica Splendour spinning reel +- R600 (or something similar)
Shimano Clarus spinning rod +- R500

As for baits, stick to the basics at first, Senco, Fluke, Horny Toads.

Do yourself a favour, buy a bass magazine and check out the specials at Ghanis in Witbank. The have some awesome specials sometimes.

Also check the 2nd hand posts here and in other forums. You can pick up some seriously good equipment for a fraction of the original price.

At the end of the day it all comes down to personal preference. Maybe get Little Green Fish to arrange another get-together. There you can try out some of the gentlemen's equipment and decide for yourself as to what your preferences are. Every angler likes to believe that his equipment is the best out there. I love Abu, Fenwick and Tica. Johanvc loves Johnny Morris and old tannies. LGF loves Quantum. At the end of the day you can only make up your mind once you've tried them all.(you will realise that ABU is the best :)

The most important thing is to enjoy the fishing, make sure the equipment you purchace does not frustrate you more than it gives you pleasure, hence my suggestion to get a spinning setup.

Ohhhh and before I forget, get yourself a decent scale. guessing the weight of your precious trophy can be dangerous.

Once again: Welcome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shimano 6.6 Scimitar medium fast
Shimano 750FB katrol
4kg Fireline Crystal
en koop 'n tolletjie 8kg Berkley Vanish of enige 100% flourocarbon lyn

Ok so :welcomesea: and here's my go at giving you some tips, just remember that as with most of the other replies they are based on personal experience and sometimes preference, mine will focus more on the experience than the prefs.

With a R1000-R1500 you can buy yourself some decent equipment and alot of it, so long as you know where to, having said that i must however also say that don't buy cheap as it'll always end up in P.$$ing U Off and I have seen guys walk away from bass fishing (pitty cause they're missing out on a GR8 facet of angling) because of this.

If you don't have a spinning setup, rather look at starting off with that first and follow these simple guidelines.

ROD: 7ft med/heavy with fast action (shimano clarus = R500) (Tica TC4 = R500, PM bigmouth)

REEL: Any Shimano with all metal parts spinning reel would do just fine (slade 2500 = R450 +/-)

Line: 10lb Flurocarbon (P-Line Halo is a little expensive but worth it R250/200yards but in your budget get something in the R150 range)

Hooks: 2/0 - 5/0 a pack of each whihch should set you back around R100

Lures: Stick to the naturals Grubs, Flukes, Senko's, Lizards and Frogs in colours Watermelon seed, Watermelon Red, Green Pumpkin, Green Pumpkin Red, June Bug. These cost between R35 and R50 a pack, so try and get one of each if not stick to Flukes, Lizards, Grubs and Frogs and alternate the colours like Watermelon seed grubs, Green Pumpkin Frogs, Watermelon Red Lizards, etc etc. so that you cover all the types and all the colours not necesary all the colours in all the types (that will happen sooner than you can imagine and you'll be sharing the LURE SLUT Seats at the back of the bus with Loams and I)

Sinkers: Bullet weights (tungsten if you can otherwise lead will do fine, get 1/4 and 3/8 ounces) Dunno the lead prices but the tunsten ones are between R65 and R110.

This entire setup should fit your budget otherwise spend that extra R200, it'll be worth it.

Now before you start planning your first trip, start planning a savings plan, cause you'll soon very soon be back at the shop to buy more lures, baitcaster uotfit, etc etc etc etc, and you'll blame us for your financial downfall ::S and all I'll say is gald I could've helped::S.

You in PE makes the planned socials a little more complicated but, see who else on the bassing forum is from there and hook-up and go fishing together, do some serious reading up in the mags suggested and search the Net, when all else fails ask the guys here, I for one will help where I can.

Anglers Den in Edenvale,

Ek persoonlik hou nie baie van Daiwa nie sou liewers vir iets soos Abu ProMax gegaan het.

Laat weet maar of jy reggekom het.
