@ Fish#13 - I agree with Kevin.
At Mtunzini you can expect anything. The swim beach/doggie beach & mouth areas yield good results at times, currently shad from small to just beyond size limit, smallish kobs with odd bigger size.
The mouth on The Port Durnford side yields Garrick, though security is an issue if you do decide to go there.
I have spoken to a Nature Conservation Services (NCS) friend of mine who confirms the ff regulations wrt permits , prawn pumping & cast netting.
I think the 1st point is known by all anglers -
1. You require a permit to gather cracker prawns & or any other bait organism & for a cast net.
2. You may pump for crackers within the UMLALAZI resort system.
3. You may use a cast-net in the UMLALAZI system - Now to explain the GREY AREA.
NCS request all anglers who make use of a cast net to, preferably use it in the open sea & up to a maximum distance of 100m from the mouth inland.
I know anglers will say that you cant get mullet etc in the open sea or its difficult , thus the allowance of the 100m from the mouth up the river.
The previous regulations on cast-netting did however stipulate/was endorsed in which rivers a cast net was allowed, & not allowed , whilst current legislation/& permits does not prohibit the use of a cast-net in a river system.
NCS request humbly to respect the
REQUEST as for the
Eco-system to be able to be sustainable etc. etc. which I think is fair.
They cannot prosecute any person for using a cast net in the system , though other regulations need to be borne in mind , ie the size limit on species & daily catch limits etc.
They kindly request anglers when found in the system , to net in the specified areas.
I think we should apply our minds in a positive direction when using a cast-net & not set a president which at the end of the day that bites us in the butt.
Hopes this helps.
