Hi, I bought a new Unreel 17 powered by 2x 50hp EFI Suziki' s. But it seems that it needs a little bit of power for playing on the water such as ski and tube rides.
So I wondered if anyone knows if it is possible to upgrade the 50hp to 60hp by changing the chip of the motor.
Both the 50 and 60 hp has the same displacement, bore X stroke, gear ratio and oil pan.
So I wondered if anyone might know of someone that have done it before or knows that if it is possible.

sorry for posting a second time (new on sealine)

Hi Pieter, welcome to Sealine. You say you bought new ... I assume the motors are not new as Suzuki has not sold 50's for quite a few years now (only 40 and 60hp which are based on the same block). From memory, I don't think that the 50 was the same block as the current 40/60hp.

I would suggest reposting this post (with a few pics) in the Starboard section.

Currently overseas they share 40/50/60 on the same block. That's the current generation of motor. Suzuki SA doesn't bring the 50, just the 40 and 60.

Your 50 is from the previous generation of motors when the next hp up was 70 and is not the same block as the current 40/50/60 that is on the American website.

You will have to google and see of the previous 50 and 70 were perhaps not the same block. If they were, your original question stands about perhaps upgrading your 50 to a 70.

I think you should get hold of your local Suzuki dealer and ask them for clarity.

Thanks, I looked at the 70hp specs and they are 4 cilinders which make it not possible to change the chip.

As I have to stay with the 50hp, do you think that mayby a prop with a bit more agresive pitch say 11X14 ( as mine are 11X12 ) and trim flaps would make a diffrence in the peformance of the boat so that it would get faster out of the water and up to speed?
