Hi

I am really struggling to find Stainless steel wire in 0.8 mm and 1 mm diameters.
I want to make some 1 Oz and 1.5 Oz spoons and find the common 1.6 mm diameter a little thick. Some years back you could get 1mm from security shops but now with braided wire it has become obsolete.

Does anyone know where I can get this thinner wire?

I found a few bulk dealers but their smallest quantities start at a TON!

Does anyone know where I can get small quantities of thinner wire?

I live in JHB but would courier some from anywhere in SA.

Many thanks

Thanks for the reply.

I tried Nemtek in a few provinces,1 mm is thinnest they sell. I also tried a few other security places without any joy.

I have 0,9mm Mig wire (grade 304 stainless steel). 316 is too brittle but 304 isn't brittle at all. Bends very well.
Any company that does stainless steel welding should be able to help you with this. Otherwise pay postage and packaging and I can pull some of a spool for you.

Afrox
sparky2009 thanks for the link. I phoned the Afrox branch closest to me about a month ago and was told they don't make it anymore. Sometimes it just depends on who answers the phone and how busy they are at that moment. Ill try again this week.

Bennie: many thanks for the kind offer [p.s. I just tried my first mold with MM60 according to your tut. Boy did I mess it up!! LOL!!. My MM60 had expired and although I added thinner at 8% & 2% activator, it thickened very quickly, before bubbles escaped, so quickly pit it into vacuum chamber....bubbled over sides. Nice mess. So all in all I had a lot of fun!]

Its working just fine than you.

I have to find a method to reliably bend wires to correct length for mold. This is my slowest part of making the spoon...LOL.

Bennie, so the 304 is the better choice for lures? I'm going to buy 1mm wire so have to decide between 304 or 316.

The Afrox MIG 316LSi is low carbon, but do you think it will still be too brittle?
