G'Day Fritzabu, you have realized my fears. So even if I do find a second hand reel and scavenge the drag plate I am likely to end up back in the same boat again...without a drag plate. What a pity and a waste of an otherwise very nice reel.
Thanks for your information.

Cheers.

Not really .

It will depend what you want to use the reel for ?

If the drag washer is damaged . You can replace that with a suitable replacement washer like : cork , leather or even any other thin suitable material .

If like in my case the drag plate hole went oval . You can still use reel for trolling as the fact that the spool will not release completely . Will not affect the use very much.

In my friends case he use it to swim live bait and then if the spool is not loose enough. The bait will not swim on own very well. It will also affect the casting ability of the reel a little bid.

Hope it make you feel a little more positive ?

I am sure we will find suitable donor reels in the not to distant future !!

Thank you for that information. In my case the drag plate is fractured/cracked so it is not possible to apply any drag pressure. Maybe this is not a common fault and I will indeed find a replacement. I will keep searching. :fishn

Hi all

I need some help with my Policansky 4B. I bought it a number of years ago to catch yellowtail and the odd longfin but for a couple of reasons it never made it out the box. I revived it last year and because of its long hibernation, I had it serviced by a well know CT tackle shop (it came back with a few minor bumps and scratches like it had been dropped and I wont be using them again).

My problem: I find the tighter I make the lever drag the more dificult it is to reel in, to the point where I struggle to even turn it.  Is that normal? I have never experienced this with any fishing reel before. I have played around with the drag knob/dial and the knob/dial on the lever drag but it does not seem to help much. The drag has to be fairly loose to wind up normally (compared to Penn or Shimano Reels I have used). I don't recall having this problem when I first bought the reel, so I assuming its hibernation has something to do with it.

The only reason I haven't dumped it, is because a number of guys seem to like the reel.

Your comments/input is welcomed.

Many thanks

Craig

Craig if its turning tight when drag is applied . Its because the person who worked on your reel did something wrong ?

Have it cleaned and put back together correctly and it should be fine .

Other wise make a price and I may take it over ?
