Hi....I am a first time buyer and found a 19" Robcraft Cabin for R60 000. It has the new boyancy sert and all the safety equipment with the newest GPS, fishfinder ,radio etc. The boat has been restored completely with new deck as well....It has two 60hp Johnsons without trim and tilt, but in imaculate condition!...Boat has been resparayed as well....Thing is that i do not want to make a costly mistake and need some info from the guy's that know these boats (handling, safety etc.) Is Robcraft boats considered to be "good" boats?

The boat obviously is about 18years old.....

howzit boet !!

i have to say , iv never heard of ''robcraft'' but for all i know it could be a brilliant desingn , if it has all that new stuuf and resprays and stuff , you have to ask yourself the question ''why'' , why have they redone the deck , why have they resprayed it , why is there so much new electronic equipment ,

all these things play a role when buying , for example ,
2 years ago i bought a second hand infanta 5.2 from honda marine knysna it R 120 000 and had a fishfinder , a CB radio , a FM radio , and the previous edition Honda 90 fourstroke engine , it seemed like a steal !!! so i bought it and was very happy for about a month , untill the 1stly the cables in the steering snapped , i wa in the middle of the dam with no steeing and had to row back to shore. Next day i took my boat waterworld to have it sorted , while they were repairing the cables , they mentioned that electronics are shot and were one spark away from an explosion , so they re-did that aswell. . .

so i got my boat back after a week , and it ran beautifuly for about 6 months , untill winter came , during winter i keep the boat in my garage and occasionally turn the key to see if the battery and evrything els is still in good shape ,

so i turn the key and check an orange reflection off my wall , i thought to myself '' whos put the hazard lights on '' untill about about 2 seconds i realised i had a fire !!! , thats right a fire !!! seems as though some rubber shaving along with some oil had driped down the transfer case , and the transfer cas emitted a spark as i turned the key , and on top of that , i had 50 litres of fuel behind the motor !!

so i phoned honda marine knysna , and said i want my money back for the boat they sold me , the manger , Dave said no issues , he will give me a full refund , untill about 2 hours later he phoned me and said he will give me a brand new Infanta 5.2 hull , with all the extras and the NEW Honda 90 VTEC fuel injected motor , if i pay and additional R 40 000 , so i went with that idea , I COULDNT BE HAPPIER !!!! i love my boat and my engine , and the service from Honda marine knysna has been EXCELLENT !!!

so thats just a heads up on what my experience with buying a second hand boat , , ,

but draw up a check list consisting of the
1. hull
2.motor(s)
3.throttle housing
4.Electronics
5.wiring
6.cracks , scratches and gell tip offs ( where the gell coating has come off )

run a thourogh check through everything !! if you satisfied , Go for it , !! ;)

also see if you cant possibly organise a test drive , often it helps !!

hope this helped
