Hi There

what worked absolute well for me is hook up some kariba worms with a plain floaties or garlic.

make sure that your bait is floating... believe me, you will get some decent yellows.

I caught a 6kg LM, and like 8 SM in 1 day..

Works wonders... Hope you going to the Barrage, great fishing out there

Hi Wayna
I have heard that crabs work extremely well, you must just scrub them so that the whit underside is showing nicely. Haven't tried it myself but am definitley gonna give it a go!

H guys, I must concur, crabs (especially baby crabs, preferably whole) work very well..as do the shrimp, worms, crickets, in fact, most natural baits. A small brown bread bait works wonders too, with a little "Borrie" and of course mielie pitte (whole kernel corn). Now, in winter, a soft, sweet, white pap is very good bait.

I also agree on the running trace, but I like it as light as possible, even just one or two split shot with a small single hook. If conditions allow, I go weightless.

Light tackle, guys...4 lb line, small centre-pin reel, light 7 foot rod..it is awesome sport to catch a Yellow with light tackle!!

Going to below the Vaal Dam wall soon, will report back..:fishn:fishn:fishn

hi

@ karpking,

where can i buy some shrimp, as it would be a whole lot easier than cacthing those little critters.

@wayna, Kernal corn works well.

And has anyone managed to locate some one that sells flying ants?

Hi Guys

The small crabs work very well, especially if u fish them weightless in the rapids. cast it upstream and let it drift down. This will require you to wade into the water.

Also, in deeper waters you can fish the crabs or any other bait with a running sinker. If you dont want to lose tackle through hookups, replace the sinker with a stone. mainline to swivel and then 30-40cm leader to hook. attach stone to swivel with cotton. Those river frogs are the magic if you can get your hands on them. catch the shrimps with a butterfly net. hope this helps

Hi guys.

Just wanted to know, going to vaal river dimalagheit, just want to know If there are yellow fish and if so, what lures/bait I must use, I don't have a fly rod, just normal carp gear.

Any hints/tips, caught plenty carp and barbel n all the usual, but never gotten a yellow.

Thanx a lot!!
