Hi guys,

We are 6 days away of what i believe is going to be the best henties Bay fishing trip ever. Over the weekend we finilized our final shopping for theis upcoming trip, and one of the sales consultants assured that by using fish oil to cover your bait with is the wright thing to do"to get that nice fish smell". Is this true or should I discard what he said?

I've heard the same thing ....BUT .....4 years ago, we went there and caught 70 Kablejou, and 15 Steenbras in 10 days time ... no oil used ...just normal, FRESH, sardine ...so I don't know whether the oil will make such a big difference ...
Something that I've tested, that really worked great, was to take some sardine, sprinkle them with salt, put them on news paper, and let them dry over night ... the next day those sardine had a bit of a tougher structure, so it stayed on the hook for longer .... it worked like a charm!

Geeezzz ...a bit long ago to remember the spots ....all I remember was that we got 90% of all our fish north of Henties ... we didn't have much luck South of Henties ...but things could be diferent now .... my 2 brothers are at the moment there ....YEA...tell me about it ...I couldn't go with them ..I'm still sulking ....ANYWAY ...they are only going to be back on Sunday ....but I guess by then it will be too late to give any tips ... I will try and post a report on Sealine on Sunday or Monday, depending on when I'll get all their info ...

Agree, in my experience there is no improvement in the amount of bites I get with additives. If the fish are there, they will not pass up a nice fresh piece of pilchard, although I have seen a distinct preference for mussel on occassion...the fresh live variety that you get right there!

OK ...here is the info I could gather so far ....haven't had a chance to speak to them face to face ...
Fishing is ALOT harder than what it was 4 years ago ... it apears that the water warmed up, and the fish moved deeper ...
In 10 days time, they managed to get 36 kabeljou between the 4 of them ... didn't have any luck with steenbras ...
They caught all of them North of Henties ... they tried Paaltjies and some other spots south, but with no luck ....so they stuck to the Northern side ....
The Kabeljou starts to sound like the steenbras ....you're lucky if you're on the right spot, at the right time .....My brothers went to Mile108 one day ...they only managed to catch 4 for the whole day ..... then the next day, they heard that so much kabeljou came out at mile108, that the guys that was there, drove back to Henties to stock up on more bait, and then drove all the way back to 108 again to catch some more ....
Oh yes .... the guys that got the steenies, all caught them during the night .... none came out during the day ...
That's all I have ....sorry ....

I'm amazed that my magic Steenie spot has not been mentioned once yet on any of the Henties threads doing their rounds. This one I'm keeping secret until we return from ours! ;)
