nothing fancy there but that right arm packs a mean punch when it is required plus the left elbow stays up and the hips are coming through nicely. What I like about this technique is that it is very controlled. Did you perhaps have a look at John Holden's casting training?

Also a shortish drop and not as long as some people recommend. For me the key is that right arm/hand and you have that spot on.

no I have not looked at John Holden's casting training, I will go and have a look where can I find it? I have been playing with my own technique for a while now , I have also tried the longer drop and swinging the rod to my right backside but this doesn't give me more than 170m.

Does this differ to the pendulum technique?

I am right handed in all that I do except when it comes to casting. No matter how I try I just cant seem to switch to right handed casting. Since my right arm is by far stronger than my left, I am sure that this is what is causing me to loose distance.

I had a look at John Holden's casting technique but it is not the same as mine I do not cast like the pendulum technique. I do see that there reels are very high up the rod, it is almost like carp fishing "rod an reel setup" !

Should have been a bit more clear. In his book/video he explains about punching with your leading arm at the right time. What you are doing reminded me of that. Very simple but so effective.

Oddly,I have same problem, and think it was when I packed angling in,and came back yonks later with bad lefty habit, when I'm not a Southpaw, lol.

Some years back,With months of PRactice, practice, just practice, like Raggie Boy,I found my technique that I discovered suited me,and I now load up the front first, and then bring rod around to swing to the rear and then combine all for the whacking.Get my 100m plus at beach, but still wonder how much further I could go if I used my conventional hand.

Raggie Boy- You mentioned 2 different brands,Shimano & Assasin. Have you been through other brands?
I haven't as yet tried the Technium, but so far Purglas has outperformed other rods I have managed to accrue by beg steal,or borrow, lol, hence my quessie.

Nice post,as casting doesn't just fall in without lots of hard work,as you no doubt have put into your angling.

Cheers

Nice cast Raggie Boy, did you measure it?

Tim
Hi Tim thanx , yes I did measure it. I took some elastic silicone cotton the ones I tie my bait with to mark my distance on the mono and there after I walked down the street with a measuring tape to get the correct distance.

Respectfully,You know I can kick my Sealine Butt for coming on these type posts, lol.

Reason being,I'm keen to now test the Shimano Technium, scheming I may have missed the Technium boat, lol, and this has got my taste buds drooling, and wallet talking to me as per TV ad.

What kind of damages do these Techniums create to the deplenishing rand?

Any idea on latest price costs iaw Shimano Technium purchase?

Cheers

Hi Walt , I had some other rods that I have used in the past ( Kingfisher 7/8oz ) and the Shimano exage 1468 both these rods didn't have the backbone that the Technium and the Assasin is having. I had a Waft 13.6 Big Brother rod a few years ago but at that time I didn't practice my casting as I do now , I am sure that I could have got good distances with it but I have sold it to buy other fishing tackle. I cant speak for the Purglas rods I haven't cast with them but one of my friends are very happy with his purglas.

Thanks,RB.

Beast master is apparently same blank as Technium, cheaper than Technium, but Technium has better guides, etc, hence Technium is the more expensive of 2.

Sorry for hijack, but anyone got any other prices on Technium or Beastmaster.

Thanks
