Hi guys, judging by the number of posts regarding what to buy, it appears that the boating market is looking up.

I am looking for info from guys who already own or have owned one or both of these boats to advise me on tow vehicle requirements. I live out in the boerie curtain so towing is generally medium to long distance. How do these boats tow (FC's)?

Also could one take any of these boats up to quagua's for water skiing (i here they may be impossible to ski behind) We not serious about skiing but tend to spend 5 to 10 days a year up at the dam. But the remainder of the year i launch at least twice a month for fishing.

Any advice.... Decisions decisions

My rig is a 510 Cc, towing it with a hilux 3d4d, 4x4. very easy to do 100 -120km/hour.

The only reason I went for the 510 is that it is very easy to handle, towing and launching. I fish alot of easturies, so I can for all practical reasons do it on my own if crewmembers dropped you at the last minute.

If you want to fish 4 people on board, I would suggest the 565, the 510 is comfortable with 3 crewmembers, incl. the skipper.

Thanks Sotha, thats one of my problems, often we are 4 onboard also i want something which is comfortable to run from GB to the point in and that i can use to pull a ski'er on for the odd weekend in december.

Everything seams to point to a bigger boat.

The 565 is a great boat...plenty space for a 18 footer but when getting to boats of 18ft foot and larger it is quite diffiucult to expect them to be cross purpose. She is a fishing boat that can be taken to a dam on the odd occasion rather than the other way around.....The CC version is great for angling but can be a little wet in wind and big seas.....Craig

ok... So it looks like i'm going to buy the 565 with 2 yam 90's. Will be towing with ford ranger 2.5 turbo diesel. Thumbs up on combonation??? Or any tips otherwise would be really appreciated!

Also will be running from GB any ideas on fuel consumption? Hope to have the rig together by end of October latest

Have you considered the brand new technology yamaha F70 (fourstroke) for your 565 vs the 2 stroke 90's? They are 96k a pop, which is not much more expensive than the 90 two strokes. (When last I checked they were around 88K AETOL - 90K AETOX)
They are new technology,quieter, lighter in weight, increase the resale and holding value of the boat and will be significantly lighter in fuel. we have ordered the 565fc with the new F70's after LOTS of research. For me if you are going to shell out the money for this kind of rig the few extra bob for the new F70's is well worth it. Just my 2 cents...

yamaha 90 are a little thirsty if you do a lot of trawling and running long distances, but they are a brilliant bullet proof motor.

in all honesty i am a 2 stroke junky but the silence and economy of the 4's is a real consideration? I will discuss with the dealer, trust him with my life and a long standing family friend.

If you're towing, why run from GB to the point? You could launch from Millers and save a lot of distance.
I'm not 100% sure that a 2.5 is going to be sufficient to tow that size boat. I have the straight 2.5 ranger and tow a small 14ft witblitz with that, and its just sufficient. Dunno maybe the motorheads can give their input.

Agree with Patrick there ... an 18footer with two 90's is a lot of weight behind a Ranger. Those Seacats aren't light either.
Can be done but would have to be a very good breaked trailer. One which still works after being in salt water a few times.

Thanks guys, ofcourse this is a big concern... And this is where costs quickly add up. I was chating to a guy who towed one to struisbaai with a colt 2.5 and he reconned 60km/h up hills and 110 on the flat.

In all honesty this is half the reason i launch in GB also... i figure it is vital to have a boat that u can be spontaneous with...hook up and go and not have to stress about the tow. So thanks i will need to take this into serious consideration as well!

I have a 2007 IZUZU KB 250, real work horse, as reliable as the South Easter in Summer here, and I have been told by the dealer she is perfect for pulling the 565. Fortunately I mainly will go from Fish Hoek to Millers. so literally just around the corner. I have seen some amazing things though with regards to boats and tow vehicles. Recently I saw some guys launching at Buffels, very low tide, a 16ft skicraf with a mercedes benz!! Obviously their wives were'nt to fussed about the rust developing on the doors...clearly wasn't the first time they have done that...

Hbobby, not sure if this will be of any help. I have a 510C with 2 60 Four Strokes. Love the boat! Very economical, but fishing 4 up gets complicating. I tow either with my Discovery 4 which is a diesel when I tow long distance, it is a 3.0 liter diesel but 600 NM of torgue, so I honestly do not feel the boat. I get around 13 to 14 liters per 100 km's, that is towing at normal speeds with the traffic. Shorter runs I use my Defender 2.8i BMW Engine, very heavy on juice but also has a 3.5ton tow capacity. The seacat is a heavy boat, but solid on the water. BIG small boat!

I have the 565 CC with 60 four strokes. 3 up perfect. Tow with a Toyota 3 L Diesel. No problem. 100 - 120km/h.

Love my boat !!

Currently runnin 2 x Yamaha 60 / 4's on the 565 but will be upgrading to the new 70 / 4's....word on the street is that these new 70's are great motors
