The problem with a golf ball - if the line snaps and hits someone on the head they might die.
If us anglers have to explain that in court, I doubt the prosecutor would feel sorry for us.

HAHAHA well you can sort the golfball problem out just go cast near a golf course.

Ek cast on average so 130m tot 150m. As ek bietjie vaskop haal ek so 165m, as ek die bom los en met 'n P3 sinker slinger kry ek gereeld so 185m.

The line tend to slice my vingers when I cast. What am I doing wrong there? Should I drop my hand closer to the reel or should I lift it higher? That with my coffee grinder b.t.w.

The closer your hand, that holds the line before casting, is to the reel the better. You can also try to scale down your mielie bom, If your trace is to heavy that would also cause the line to rip from your finger before you reach the optimum release angle and that can cause a paper cut that will burn for a while.

Thanks for all the info, since i posted the topic a while back i have been making progress, my casting is gone accurate and further with fast moving action of the arm as te rod comes over your shoulder. So i would like to thank one and all for all the help.

Just casting with a magnum centre pin reel is my new quest now any help.:kaykak

The last time we went to Koppies, one of the guy's finger got cut when casting. After applying a plaster, he said that the plaster actually helped him cast better. Some of the UK guys use a funny one finger glove made from leather to prevent line cuts.

Tip. Use those yellow dishwashing gloves, cut off all the fingers and use one finger "kondoompie" on your casting finger. Always make sure that the drag is tight otherwise you are going to bleed!

It's better to use the finger protection before you get a cut. If you are going to cast a heavy weight like a P5 with feed, with a 13ft rod then you need to wear the protector before you cut yourself.

I saw a clever oke this weekend, spodding with braid straight through, without wearing protection on his finger!

To prevent cutting your fingers get into the routine of checking that your drag is locked before every cast.

The trigger finger (holding the line in the cast) must be directly under the reel spool making as close to a 90 degree angle as possible.

Once tha rod reel and line balance is right then getting the timing of the release is the most important. According to all the Javelin and long range casters, the weight must be released at the point that it will be traveling at 52 degrees to get the maximum range.

Once all that is in place then power must be added while keeping the timing of the release constant.

Remember that the stiffer (quicker) your rod action is the longer your drop must be as a short drop on a stiff rod will cause the leader to pop in the cast

I find the finger stall (kondoompie) to be a nuisance and I keep loosing it. The application of some material elastoplast I find to be better because your contact with the line is better and I've never been cut fishing with elastoplast and I've fished sessions where I have had to spod 100 liters of spod mix at 130 yards (St Lawrence river Tournament - USA and Cananda)

To get maximum distance match the rod, reel and line to the distance you want to cast.

I'm not as big a caster as Fanie de Jongh but with my 15' Skycaster III, I can put a 110gr weight with small mielie bom down at between 190 - 205m and during the last Carp SA's I was measured on my 1 cast with a AfriCast 13' T53 2 piece custom, Antega baitrunner and 0.12mm braid and a 4oz (113gr) weight at 204m and I got a 3.89kg Carp on that cast in Tago Was a mission playing the fish in on a Linemate from that range.

Ok so now i use dthe 15 lb leader(shock trace) with 7lb main line.. but had a moment where i tried the braid option ... to my own detrement...  almost cut my finger off when i cast using fireline as leader and forgot to tighten the drag...

i naturally continued fishing with this cut treated by the elestoplast material type plaster wich worked well . as it has "feel" and protected my finger..

Unfortunatally this weekend while using the 15lb nylon again .. i cut same finger again.. so i am glad you giuys menmtioned the "condom" topic. ... I am thining of using one permanently .. only thin is .. the plaster think for me works best...

Oh and this weekend ... I landed a 5 kg carpon 7lb line ..  .. .i was chuffed... landed several other smaller... but was worth the cold.

will post pics soon.
