Rietvlei sliding trace. If you get snagged alot, try a trace with just the sputnik(bomb holder) without a weight.

Dips that worked for me were, fx/banjo/almond and plain floats and swd. Other dips include perdeby, bunspice, honeyglow, gumtree. . .

Distances, 40m you will get smaller fish. 80m + you will start getting better fish, fpending where you sit and how many people are active along the bank.

Hope this helps. Tight lines and dont forget to report back!

Arrived at Boschkop at 8am got the lines in the water around 8.45am, fished with 3 rods 12ft, 7ft, and 6ft, used rietvlei trace.  Was there till 2pm caught 8 fish in total could have had 9 but mistimed a bite. All the fish were caught with the 12ft rod depth was approximately between 60-80 meters.

Wow, well done Naruto!

I spent the day at Houw Hoek and didn't manage to get a single bite dispite seeing fish jumping quite frequently. So, good on you :)

As you enter past the ablution blocks, past the trees on the left approximately 300 meters to the right. Swd with plain floaties, Fx, almond and banjo dip. I used a rietvlei trace the Mushroom type sinker on the 12ft rod that I caught the fish with, the other two rods I used also a rietvlei trace the dart type and the other the spring type but didn't get not one bite on those rods, any idea why could this happen. All these traces were ready made.

Notice the missing yellows and carp.. guys if you dont want to have a one specie fishing life i suggest you kill the grass carp when you catch them.. there are many hungry people that will eat them...

We had a great 3 days between 18 Jan - 20 Jan at Boschkop.

We arrived at about 05:30 on the Monday morning and waited for the gates to open at 6. It was raining and raining but that did not stop us from getting the rods in the water.

We got the rods in at about 06:15 and was sitting in the car while we were waiting for the first bite and the rain to stop. It rained until about 09:00 and after that the whole day was cloudy but warm and no rain. We caught about 4 fishies between 500g - 1kg and one 4kg barber (which broke the bearings of my cheap baitrunner) for the day on a fish head.

Monday evening another friend of mine joined and we could get some sort of a feeding spot going. Teausday morning was up at about 05:00 watching a beatifull sunrise over the vaal. Got the first rod in the water for the day and from there on every 10 - 20 minutes the rod came out with a fishie. All between 500g - 1kg.

Teusday evening the rain started and never stopped. It rained the whole night and at some stage I though we and our tent is going to end up being part of the dam. The fishing however carried on for the rest of the two days, put your rod in the water and out in the next 10 - 20 minutes. In total we caught about 41 small fishies.

We used every dip in my tackle box which includes fx, banjo, vaaldam, gumtree, devils fork, banana, caramle bread, honey bread and allot more and all caught fish. All the dips was used on mielies and sweet dough with floaties and plain and almond mieliebom.

We fished at a distance of between 50 - 150 meters and the deeper you go the bigger the fish.

Although the fish werent big we had a blast of a time between all the rain and trying to keep the water out of the tent.

I will post the photos a bit later as I dont have them with me now and this is the first time i got a change to get back on sealine.

This was my first time toe boschkop and I will not hesitate once to go back. I can truly recommend this place for anyone. We even had two woman with us and they enjoyed it just as much with the clean ablution blocks etc.

The only problem is I need a new baitrunner before going again::S

Weekends it gets very busy and on public holidays its even worse. If you decide to go on a weekend or public holiday I would suggest that you be at the entrace before 6am thats when they open. Personally I prefer going on weekdays its so much more quieter but then again its a problem to go on weekdays if you have kids who are in school.

Hi Guys

Went to the UJ/Island shores  yesterday on vaaol dam , although the weather wasnt great we caught fish the whole day, only carp and muddies but averaged a fish at least every 10 minutes at the most, from 250grams to 3.5 kg's.

The grounds were spotless and there was loads of space to fish, ablutions were very clean so might take the wife with next time.

Exactly 102 km's from Beyers Naude or 1 hour 10 min and the water was clean. it will definately see me and family again.

regards

Was at Boschkop yesterday fishing was ok caught 10 fish all grass carp between 400 and 500grams. What I don't understand is that I was casting between 100 and 120m and I was only picking up these small fish, is it because its getting colder so the fish are moving into more deeper waters? The weather was rather warm yesterday.
