Hi Guys,

Im, hunting for that elusive 'perfect' hilux and seemed I may have found one.

The main issue is the book value in relation to the sellers asking price.

is it worth it?

Model: 2007 Hilux 3.0d4d 4x4 with 100000km on clock.

extras: canopy, leather seats, dual battery, OME shocks, long range fuel tanks, BFG A/T tyres New, nudge bar, rock sliders, bashplate, full service history with Toyota. and it is immaculate in condition,

Selling for: R230000-00.

According to toyota, retail for the standard one in decent condition is around R180000, and they reckon they may sell for up to R200000.

Now I feel this is strange, as I cant seem to find a single double cab with that mileage and extras for anything under R240000? only ones with over 200000km on the clock?

What do you guys think?

toyota = overpriced (altho mostly reliable)

i did a lot of hunting when i bought a car a few months back as well and also looked at a number of hilux. Ended up buying a Navara.

Seems as though most Toyota Hilux sellers know that their cars are rare (like the one you referring to) and simply sell it at the price they feel comfortable (even above the book).

Funny enough, they do get their price in the end. Good luck!

Thanks for the input, it's just in such good nick for the year and basically has all the after market extras I would ever need, so it's so tempting....don't know what to do and don't want to buy impulsively...

Saw a similar one sell for the same price on a 4x4 forum with 20000km more on the clock and less extras...

Test driving tomorrow so the proof will be in the pudding I guess...

I figure thats a good price for that mileage, considering the extras you have. Dont be deterred by the year model, Hilux is built to last, and last.

Very interesting this came up -
I am doing a Trade In for my 2009 D4D - 3 liter diesel 4x4 Double Cab next week on a new similar bakkie -
The Toyota Dealer commited themsels giving me on Trade In R250 000

Now that is great
My Bakkie has 90 000km and has never been Off Road or on the Beach
It has a Toyota Tow Hitch
Has been Rubber Rised
Toyota Torny Cover and new tyres I fitted last month

You should really buy my Bakkie as it is perfect

You will probably find a Ford Ranger with lower milage and newer for cheaper and you wont just be buying the badge! I sold my Hilux and bought a ranger, much happier with the Ford!

That price does seem steep for the year model? If that person attempted to trade it in I very much doubt he would get anywhere near that price even with the extras, the dealerships don't really take all that stuff into account on a valuation, they may add a few thousand if there are things like a canopy etc.

I doubt there is anything wrong with the vehicle, it does seem as if the owner is selling just as the 5 Year Warranty and Service Plan is expiring?
Which means any major mechanical failures like new injectors for instance will be to your pocket.

Go and Demo the vehicle .Check for accident damage . If you can Get them down By even just R5000 , take it .

In genral , Hilux's do sell well above their retail value .
It is true that you wouldn't get that kind of Money , were you to trade it In - But one ca NEVER compare the retaiul Price of a vehicle , to a trade-in value .Never . When you trade it in - that's Precisely what you do - you Trade it In . We then Take the risk of it possibly requiring Repair , etc etc . My arm is sore so i want to be Brief . One finger typing is a Baas ted .

in general , as the popster stated- try finding One with under150 000 km Even , is going to Prve difficult .With 100 000km On that vehicle is a Gem . It May Not be as potent as the current ford stable vehicle's , but i can assure you as to It's reliability . I may Work for toyota , but i Love cars in general , and tell it like it Is .
they are good bakie's , and if the vehicle is In decent condition - it Ought to find it's Place in your garage .
do Not snooze too long On it , if this vehicle is standing somewhere at a dealership , you Might find yourself watching it's taillights as somebody else Drives it away .

There are Only 2 Things pushing up the Price of these vehicles : 1 Availibility
2: SOMe , of the extras.
you could always spend anotheer year trying to find a standard one ( Nevermind the Leather trim ) and then commit to fitting some Extra's yourself .
If you can get them dowen to just R225 000 Even - it's a done Deal .

Make DEAD certain the vehicle has been servced properly , ask them for a 6 Month warranty , and that it is Neat.

Your Only Potential Expense in future , at 150 000km , will be injectors , as the tips Leak . turbo'[s and such do Not appear to give Much hassle , at All .

Test drove the car today, and all i can say is WOW. It is as immaculate as I hoped it where. looks amazing as well and they are working out a finance deal for me as the speak.

A big thank you goes to Tsutsuma, from mazambique, he already had a trade price from the dealer and offered me his car at a great price, unfortunately the other one is more what im in need of with the added extras. His cabby is also immaculate.

Holding thumbs that all works out and soon i will be cruising in my new beast

If you want a Toyoya tested ask my mate ,he does survey work for Eskom and knows how to put a vehicle through its paces ,he always used toyota but is not impressed with the 2012 extended cab he bought ,the vehicles body is paper thin and after only 8 months it looks worse than his last D4D Double cab he drove for 3years.He is seriously looking at the Ranger before his Toyota falls apart.
