Hiya Guys,
Algoa Bay in PE has some amazing structure and to be honest we get spoiled for choice along most of our coast line.
From Brighton along to Blue Water Bay, Jooste Park, Hougham Park onto Sundays River we have access to very deep water with feature after feature.
Have a look at a Google Earth image of these areas and you will see exactly what I mean...no wonder such great catches are made along these beaches.
The photo below was taken off Brighton Beach on a low pushing tide. This is typical features I enjoy fishing.
If I was going for eds I always plumb around, but will make a few casts into the red areas first when the water is working. These banks hold fish either moving in the working water or fish moving from the outer bank over the working water into the gulley. I will try the working banks on either side of the gulley casting at different distances and always on the pushing or pulling tide.
When the tide reaches that magical slack water between tides I would plumb around the gulley, Blue Area, and cast at the start of the gulley, up against the banks, in the rip on the eroded outer bank or simply plonk a bait right in the middle of the gulley.
If that does not produce I would launch a few baits over the outer bank, Yellow Area, behind the working banks, behind the gulley or slap bang into the rip.
Understanding the features is one thing, but understanding the effects tides have both on the feature and the fish is good to know. Have a read through this article in the FAQ section for some additional info that I hope could improve catches when fishing on structure.
