hi guys
I was browsing through a bassing magazine and noticed how all the pro's hold big bass from the mouth.now i dont know if it hurts the fish but i dont personaly do that.i always support the fish's body when i hold it.i just feel it cant be good for the fish's jaw supporting its entire body weight.
And another thing the hook wounds are usualy small little pricks on on the bass's mouth but like the specimen carp anglers treat them with meds.is there something like that for bass?

Maybe we can share fish care tips in this topic,maybe make it a sticky?we can all advocate catch and release but if the fish is returned hurt then whats the point?

Carp fishermen or so called "specimen anglers" are OVER doing the whole thing..It is NOT necessary to treat a damn carp asif it's a 4 month old baby!All that is needed is to handle the fish with common sense and not to abuse it..That is IT!..Back to your question about the Bass.Same applies..If your hookup caused major damage the there is not too much you can do to help accept removing the hook carefully enough not to cause more damage.As for the usual prick,it will heal fairly quickly and it would be asif it was never there.This is based on what I've experienced with Bass myself and friends have kept as pets after catching them with barbed hookes. Back to the carp pampering- total waste of extra money for all that added fluf. If carp were near to wipeout in our contry then I would have had a different view.But there's a hell load in almost all bodies of water. It's good to care for fish and to be gentle when working the hook out and the reviving the fish apon release is great and should stay the standard..After all we are dealing with things that live in the wild and ar not made of glass haha so don't worry too much,it's more important to catch and release than to catch and give free facial lol

Oh yes and your doing the right thing when holding a Bass and although I've only learned it not too long ago..the bass I've caughted since then I held the right way..It's mostly important when a fish get's more on the heavy side..The 500g-1kg is fine with the grip by just the lip.

Carp care for an invasive foreign fish that threatens indigenous fish..................make up your own mind but take note of the fact that they are proven to be an  invasive species.

If its a dedicated carp dam with no contact to natural rivers carp care is fine I think, but please dont overdo it and dont irritate people with your thoughts, they are not babies, realy!

I think a lot of SA dams need culling, not carp care, many dams are overpopulted.


Now comming back to bass, I have a bass dam just make sure you have long nose pliers to unhook the fish, the wounds heal quickly, I can see this when I recapture them. No needs for medicines for wounds caused by hooks.

Only touch the bass on its mouth and stomack I have seen burn marks when fish was handled on the scales on the body(removing the protetive layer). It takes a long time to heal.

thanks guys.specimen guys do seem to overdo things a bit,what i realy hate though are keep nets.ive had loads of customers buying keep nets and not keeping the fish they catch.how does that make sense?
A keepnet stresses the fish and removes slime coat effectively killing and maiming the fish.

yip only use a keep net when you want to keep the fish, some guys fill the net & then turn it upside down in the water when they leave.

im sorry if you guys are ofended but I never release, i rather give the fish away or braai them for myself.

Eebi- where is your shop?

not a bass guy really, only did it once at potch because we couldnt catch any carp. & that dam is full of bass, easy to catch also. i used my sons 7" rod with a cork policeman instead of a sinker so that the hook can float. then I just real in very slowly. well we caught about 10 in 15 minutes for 4 or us. mostly small, the big boys broke loose.  the father in law was even using a 12" rod.

What place, Grappiesdal? Cant help you there guy....I fetch jokes from a place that's not wife-friendly coz they usually kinda suck, I'm talkin about hardcore fishing venues, where your wife lets you out the house.....

i was hoping solys, i was just about to talk about the prices. any reaon why its so expensive, cant be the rent because the Mias own the centre isnt it.

i dont set the prices i just sell the stock,but the prices we pay for stock from agents are what regular shops sell their stock at.
I dont think mias fourways is closing,i havent heard anything indicating that.
Regarding the prices if you come to the shop and speak to me i'll give you a better price than whats marked but i cant guarentee that it'll be lower than other shops.

Yes they do last time i heard.

So if they own the center, they are most probably making a lot of money from rent alone (No interest on late rent payments according to the Koran, but i hardly see that being the reason for their high prices)
