Lol tzaneen will eat you up and spit you out if your goal is just to go and try an catch a MONSTER carp!
4months is not enough time to gain expirience for wild waters like tzanee!I have not done a session there as yet,but friend of mine has and believe me!!you sure don't know what u up against!
I'll rather gain some more expirience before even thinking of going to tzaneen

HAHAHAHAHAHA , thanks for your opinion “carpyman†,but I didn’t ask for any ones opinion ,I wanted to know if someone can maybe tell me of another spot at Tzaneen dam that I haven’t tried. I put in two four day sessions (at the same spot) already and caught a couple carp of between six and ten kg’s . I didn’t say I started fishing four months ago , I only started specimen angling ,but have been fishing for a good couple of years. I joined “SL†to try and gain some more knowledge of specimen angling ,so if you’re giving useful advice , rather don’t reply on my posts …… Thanks in heads-up in any case , will try and gain more knowledge before attempting to go and fish in Tzaneen again.
Welcome RiaanW. You can certainly gain knowlegde here on specimen carp fishing, some pretty experienced anglers on here. But with that sort of attitute you wont get much help.
Why do you want to change spots when you've only fished it twice? How do you know there arent any "monster" carp on that spot you have been fishing? Jumping from one spot to another wont guarantee you a big fish. It is also mid-summer when the smaller fish will be a nuisance, and you will catch lots of them now. Summer is not the best time for big carp at many dams.

Thanks Madcarper ,that is exactly the type of advice I need from the experienced carp angling guys. I was not trying to offend “carpyman†by answering the way I did ,I was asking for advice and instead he told me I lack experience . That’s exactly what I’m trying to get , experience and knowledge and that is the reason I joined “SL†,to ask the experienced guys for tips and tricks. I spoke to some of the local anglers in Tzaneen area and they told me about the spot I fished at the last two times . I have been checking out the Tzaneen dam carp classic results for the last couple of years on the net , and wanted to find out if some of the guys on “SL†know where the guys sit during that competition.

Tzaneen is ..... or has become a difficult water post the low water level era.
Many guys thought that Tzaneen would give them their PB only to find it difficult and the fishing is extremely hard. It is possible as MC said but for me these days I'll just fish for one biggie over a 4 or 5 day session because most times that's what you get.
The days of landing a few 30's up to 40's in one session is long gone. If u on a spot landing some carp you either fish it flat or move to another area ... the Tzaneen fish don't stay in one area too long...Problem is there are also too many small one's about.

Also agree stay of the dams if you after a pb in summer,klaserie wil give you good results,give that a bash if you feel like jumping spot.best advice keep at it,rather try and change your attitude towards your fellow angler,we are not the enamy.

Cecil's place is always a good starting point for Tzaneen. There is some open water to fish and Cecil will assist.
Tzaneen is not easy but also not as hard as people make it out to be. At least you will learn alot. Just make sure your tackle is solid.

Hi RiaanW. As ek jy is gaan vis die dam en leer. almal vermy sekere damme ek het ook lank want almal het gese jy kan nie dit gaan vis nie, maar elke sessie wat ek nou baie ander en nuwe damme doen leer ek baie.
Gaan na Cecil se plek toe, hy verstaan die storie en is glad nie skaam om jou te leer nie.
Was Desember daar en hy het baie moeite gedoen.

Ordentlike breekkrag hooflyn, direk na n fluoro leader van tenminste .5 en dan n safety clip rig wat jou sinker gaan drop. Hooklink kan jy enige iets opsit maar hoeke slegs n size 4 en 2.
Reg oor die dam sal jy vis kry. As jy die margins gaan fish dan gaan jy daai sizes kry. soek die features in die dieper water en jy staan n kans om n grote op te tel. Soos genoem kan jy by Cecil se gronde gaan vis maar ek sal eerder by die S bends gaan sit.
Moenie worry oor die *** aanmerkings van die ander ouens af nie. Daar is n stigma oor Tzaneen dat dit n moeilike dam is. Bietjie common sense gaan jou ver kry.
