hi guys.  i just got myself a 7ft spinning rod and slade 2500 loaded with 10 lb line. i also got a pack of the bristleworm from mccarthy.  what i need to know is how to rig it up and what type of trace to use.  i have never done dropshot before so any advice is welcome.

Bristle worm is deadly on a sliding sinker surf trace and is even deadlier in the form exhibited below:

You could also try a normal sliding sinker trace, This is what I use with the camo worm.

i have caught wave garrick on gulp bt small ones at that the bigger specimans tend only to take on 3' to 5'' minnows on a jighead

You could place a bead over the knot like on a Rietvlei Carp trace if you want to protect the knot, but it very rarely - if ever - damages the knot.

do i cast, let the worm sink to the bottom and then retrieve it slowly or wait a while and then start the retrieve ? any actionon the retrieve like jerking the rod for movement or something ?

Sliding sinker: a slow retrieve works well. Surf fish have their head in the sand and will pretty much find it themselves.

Dropshot rig: Bounce the tip constantly to make the worm jiggle in he water.

Strange that not one person asked u where u want to use it !

First, the lighter the lead the better !

I use mcarthy, berkley and the other one in gullies where casting far is not a requirement, mostly on a 8th oz jighead or even weightless, I look for deep gullies, chum the water and then cast the worm in, letting it was around in the white water

Getting mostly karenteen and some monster blacktail, a few other species do come out but not often

On lite tackle the blacktail is a fighter on note

In the surf u have to look for structure with banks and gullies, cast onto the bank and let the worm was off into the gullies, here expect to catch anything
Here distance is an issue, so u need more lead on your line

Small strong hooks are required and the lighter the sinker the better

I've only seen the 9ft one. Looks quite decent. I use a 7ft Shimano Nexave Med Heavy. Its rated up to 1oz but I've used a 1 and half ounce sinker on it with no problem. Also about R300
