HI guys

(I hope this isnt too familiar to the past rod post)

Im looking to buy another rod soon(in the +- R1000-R1500 range), and these are the options so far:

* Kingfisher poseidon 5,

* Kingfisher poseidon magnum,

* Shimano Exage,

* Loomis Shockwave.

I dont have too much info on them so all advise/info will be appreciated. I want something thats gona get me the distance, land edibles and bigish non-eds, be reliable and be used with a torium 30. If you have any other sugestions please post it all. Thanks

Leonard, leonard, what the hell did you say, hey? I rectum they are all pretty much the same, although I lean toward the Shimano cause you get 3 tips + a rod tube for R1100.  Check out the cast weight on the Exage 11ft - 250g - that's close as dammit to 9 ounce. It might look like a light rod but I cast it as far as my mates Kingfisher 14ft and its light. Does size really matter? The gaurentee I was quoted on the Assasin was disappointing, although most of the better anglers swear by them. SA manufacturers have to start performing if they're going to charge the same prices. Kingfisher has always provided good service and a reliable product. I don't know for a fact about the Loomis, but American rods usually have excellent gaurentees - normally lifetime.

I have an Exage for 3 years now my light tip cast 6 ounce no problem. its a 1446 4-6 ounce. I have aBlue Marlin G430 T53\6 difference is it doesn't have Fuji guides or Reel seat. No problems with it just it would of been nice to have those with a rod that cost more than the Exage. I heard the Poseidon is a good rod but never fished with it or casted it. I would personally suggest the Exage.

 

But its your call. The Exage is lighter than my Blue Marlin and my friends Beachmaster.

Hey mate...jus my experience i can share...the poseidon 5pc that i have used has got some good backbone on the medium an heavy tips..it comfortably throws its rated weight plus a bit more..its a good quality rod jus missing the fugi goodies..my own loomis custom built uses a special blank but were made in limited numbers,its blank is diff from the shockwave but the shockwave also has some good muscle in it..my own c/built has all the fugi goodies an has thrown a 9ounce sinker without strain on a few occasions..the assasin beachmaster is another good edible rod,very light (weight wise) making it comfortable 2 fish long hours wiv,only issue here is a breakage problem experienced by some owners..i personally think it actually fits in below the assasin medium rather than between the medium an heavy as it is marketed..lastly try an keep clear off 3 tip rod's..the flaw i have found is that with the M or H tip the outfit is quite balanced..slap the light tip on an all u got is a big heavy stick with a limp tip resulting in there being no balance, this situation could also work vice versa with the L an M bein better than the H..so choose wisely an rather buy either a light, medium or heavy outfit..also the reel u wanna use would more suited towards a heavy outfit an not a light..there's many things to ponder an i hope u understood the points i was trying to make...good luck...

I would go with the Shimano Exage - I had a 1468 (6 - 8 oz ) I casted a 9oz sinker with is and using the Torium 30 with no hassle (heavey tip)

It's Light and as you say you get the tube and 2 extra tips for a decent price

I have an assassin beachmaster now - it has 2 tips (meduim and heavy) and comes in a case -  can still cast a 9 oz with no hassle - for me between the two there is not much difference - I have not landed any very large edibles as yet ( never really fished for them) but have landed a few in the 8kg range and with the cranking power of the Torium you should not have any problems

for the money the poseidon 5 got the best blank out of the lot in the sub R1200 bracket. you can purchase a blank for about R700 then go to a rod builder and have it built up with fuji guides and a trigger winch. if you build it plain with black whipping and clear coat nicely worked purgrip you looking at R1200 for brilliant rod you can have copy the competition guide set up from the assassins. ps on the heavy tip use 16mm guides you will need it for inedibles.
