Hi guys,I have recently bought a brand new Tug 10 that I want to convert into a small bass boat for myself and my son,if any of you could help with advice on how to put the deck in,what wood to use etc,it would be appreciated! Also pics of your own projects you've done would be great!

Marine grade ply wood is certainly best - but more expensive than the conventional type. I have started converting my boat using normal ply. I believe (and know others who agree) that if you properly seal in your plywood framework with glass fiber and coat exposed wood with resin then your deck should last for ages.

I am going as far as to seal the framework in fiberglass (or just resin )then painting over it with 2 coats of polyurethane. I want to be able to spray the deck down and know that water will never ever touch the ply. That said - if you can afford marine ply then it is the better option!

Be brave! fiberglass is not difficult to work with and there is no mistake than cant be sanded out or cut off! :?

a tug10 is small, before converting it to bass boat consider the layout carefully. i would use weights while on the water to give me an idea to achieve that perfect balance before any cutting or building. BigMatt's input on materials is solid stuff.

I think with the beam not being very wide that raising the deck might create some instability. A quick test could be to put a board across the top while on the water (even a pool) and get you and your son to move around and mimic what you would do while fishing. You might find that it is too unstable for two of you to move around on a raised deck.

Then again if you aren't heavy like me - and your son is still a child you might find that it is perfect.

Thanks I'll definitely try that,it's got no deck at moment it's just a tug 10 hull

we have the same one as n the 1st link. "tug10"

that deck is nicely lifted etc.
ours is still used for carp fishing.
very nice and stable vessel.
