Hi Guys

I have been fishing at langebaan for the past few years and only catch white stumpnose and sharks( I'm grateful ),but I only get the chance to go fishing about 4 times a year so I am no pro.

I would like to know where, how, and what bait to use to catch other species in the Langebaan area . My wife, son and I are going there for a weekend in early october so all your help will be greatly appreciated. I have read lots of the forums on this great site and have learnt stacks.

I keeping reading about all these other species coming out the Baan but never catch any.

Thanks to everyone for the info on this site I went to Mosselbay last weekend and caught my first Spotted Grunter, thanks to sealine.

Thanks:D:D:D:D

ps Fish to small to send pic (sent him back to his mom )

Hey Repsol,

I'm no expert on this but maybe it will help. The other species in Langebaan range from Yellowtail, Elf, Steenbras, Kob, Steentjies, and even sometimes Leervis and china snoek. This is dependant on the season tho. Its not to say that you wouldnt necassarily catch one of them out of season, but Langebaan is pretty affected by water temperature, tides, wind and area. It is most productive in the summer months but you being there in Oct could be the right time. The areas for YT and Kob are mostly accessible by boat - places like Die Lyn and behind Skaap Island. But dont think that they cant be caught from the side too because Elf and Kob have been pulled from the shores near the concrete slipway before. There are 2 main deep channels that run through the lagoon and the fish patrol here. On a low tide at the concrete slip you can cast easily into this channel. Other place is from the rocks by the yacht club. Go to the fishing shop on the main rd and they will give you a map of all the areas and what can be caught from there - very helpful.

For the species other than stumpnose, pilchards works the best.

Good luck
