Hi Guys,

I do a lot of snorkeling and now have to replace my very old dive mask. I would like your recommendations, I have been out the market for a while and have no idea of the newer brands/models

Hope to hear from you

I swear by Omer masks

Contact Rabitech and speak to them , the have a wide variety , the best way to choose a new mask is too try them all on and see which one fits best.

Cressi sub are also good

Techni sub

there are so many

good luck

I agree with Trade 5.Make sure you do the sniff test on a mask before buying.Put the mask on your face without the head strap, suck in through your nose and the mask should stick. If not, then it is leaking on the seam somewhere and would leak once in the water.

Thanks guys, I had a Techni sub before and had good service from it.

Where is Rabitech's shop here in the Western Cape ?

The Oceanic Shadow mask is aslo quite popular - retails at around R350 to R450.  Suppose it depends on the shape of your face and if it passes the sniff test.

Choose a mask that is comfortable rather than colourful.

Cressi Sub SuperOcchio. Absolute alltime spearing and freediving favorite. Can get from Louis at Rabitech.

Agreed!

Still have mine as well as a few that I picked over the years. The parts are interchangeable with each other after about 30 years of production.

I found a huge factor in mask leakage is whether or not yuor face has been shaved.

A weekend's stubble will affect the skirt's mating with your face.

i would recommend getting whatever mask suits your face... I'm not even sure what mask I got but i know it was probably the cheeapest in the store. I went to three different shops and tried on every mask and I only found 2 masks that suited my face in about 50 masks i tried, so don't settle on just anything because the worst thing is having a mask that leaks.
I dive with a beard/stubble and it doesn't leak at all... not sure how i get that right.

That is the best bet. Try the masks and find the one that fits the best. The mask is the one thing that you want to spend money on. Your snorkel can be a cheap tube with a comfortable mouthpiece.

Make your knife cheap as well. I HAD a lovely Gerber river shorty that came adrift. A couple of hundred Rand went fluttering down to the deep somewhere on the dive.
