Hi Guys,
I am wanting to fish the Knysna lagoon on Wednesday night Sept 21 st.
Some info if anyone can please assist.
Is it safe to park at the Slipway below the N2 bridge overnight? If not is it better to use the club slipway or the one at Leisure Island.
Want to target Cob, grunter and Steenbras. Any Hot spot areas of preference - maybe use buoy numbers for reference please.
Bait - preferences on the lagoon for the above species.
Where is the better place to nett live bait and must I chum the area first?
What is the preferred sized mullet to use as live bait?
Is a Spring or Neap tide better for fishing overnight. Is the rip pretty serious during a Spring. We will be 3 days past full moon on Wednesday.
Is this a good time as I have read on one of the threads - 3 days before full moon and then 3 days after. Skip the full moon night - has this info any credibility?
I want to as for as possible try and stay clear of non edible hot spot areas.

Any info will be highly appreciated.

Thanks guy's.

Parking not really safe at the White Bridge, imho.
Preferred bait for me is bloodworm, skiet kappers and sand prawn, fresh octopus leg.
Preferred target area will be the Ashmead/Leisure island mouth. West and south of the train bridge, will give you grunter and kob. East at Brenton channel will also deliver. Upper(west)reaches of the lagoon for more grunter, best probably closer to Belvidere and old oyster beds.
Tide is strong with fuller moon yes, you will have to experiment and find the quiet water.

Tight lines.

Hi Mike,

Fishing the Lagoon for the past few years I have had best results on the bank right opposite the Old Harbour Pier.

A position roughly 100m north of the Red Triangle bank marker. There we have had numerous good size grunter, Steenbras. Preferred bait is Pink prawn ( Pumped on the north west bank on the other side of the White road bridge)

Some very nice Leeries frequent the area between the Train bridge and the Old harbour. Best bait is live mullet 12-15cm long with no.6 circle hook trolled at 2km/h. target Mullet around leisure Isle or on the eastern side of the bridge leading to Thesen island.

Stywe Lyne!

Thank's for the solid Info Gents,

I am going across on Friday, as the weather looks like this last westerly blow is going to calm down. Unfortunately not able to overnight but will arrange one for next week. Again some advice please.
I have not yet joined a the club so I used the slipway below the N2. I overnighted and a car guard fellow was spending the night around the vehicles that were parked there. This was on a Sat night. Without at least some type of guard around I would even be more hesitant to park here let alone overnight. Anyone got a take on this point???
On Friday I am thinking of launching at Brenton On Lake. Drove in there today. Looks very pleasant and quiet. Is it a good and safe place to leave my vehicle?
Sorry, got a bit side tracked there.. Main Question.

I will come be coming through from Sedge and would like to be in the water around 8. Low late morning so: If I did the Brenton Launch then what is a Good Game Plan for the day ? Been still very much the mindset of an East Londener, I still understand the bait fishing thing most, having done it most of my fishing lifetime. Still getting to understand the plastic and lure fishing here so I have a selection of poppers, floaters, medium depth rapala's, and a good plastic dropshotting assortment of various types.
Chatted through with Poena ( Breezers - Very, Very Helpful ) re the good stuff which I already had and then he got me sorted me with a couple of extras which I needed to cover all the basics fairly well.
I target only edibles but will take on non ed's and will have some good fun when they are picked up.
In a nutshell at this moment I am more comfortable either trolling or bait fishing. Will practice these new spinning and dropshotting actions when on anchor and out with bait.
Depending on Mother Nature I hope to push the day into early evening giving me a full tide with two hours turn.

Invitations / help on a possible game plan for the day. Sorry detail on areas using buoy numbers will help me if possible as I have only once before 3 weeks ago been on Knysna lagoon for the first time.

Thanks Guy's

Hi Mike,

Poena is a very good saleman !

I have also never ever walked out of a fishing shop without something new !

I think it is a disease !

Good Luck and Tight Lines !

If I remember correctly you are allowed to launch at the Municipal slipway, and pay a minimal fee to the Boat club.

Your vehicle and trailer are far safer there than leaving them at the white bridge.

A detailed map, with marker buoys is available at most garden route tackle shops with current tide tables ~ or check in with the Parks board for more info.
