If the conditions are right there is good spearfishing at Jacobsbaai. I read somewhere that one can also shoot in Saldanha at the reefs just off the diving school. Thys at Benguela in Saldanha can sort you out with the right equipment and advice regarding spots.

Hi Wayne,

I have only recently started diving and have only heard good things about Trekoskraal's crays and desperately wanna dive there. My biggest concern is obviously the sharks. Apparently the cows are passive, are the bronzie's anything to worry about?:sha:

Hi Solla, anywhere around Soetwater is good, I haven't been there for about 3 years but if you krap long enough you can get sizers not too far from shore in the area towards the lighthouse. The kelp is very thick there and to get decent size kreef you must swim out a bit. It's not a huge distance but crawling through the kelp can be tiring if you are not so young and fit and it's risky being exhausted in thick kelp. It's a good thing there are often inspectors there to stop people from being tempted by the undersizers, plenty of those there.

Where about in Jacobs would you suggest is the best for Spearing. More towards the army camp ?

Howzit. I have only tried there a few times. The fish are pretty much everywhere. I heard of someone who got good fish a week ago just off the restaurant. I got some nice ones on Wednesday right on the other side (basically I just went and dived in front of the southern most house in Jacobs). I tried there again yesterday but not much luck. You do need a flat sea for Jacobs though.

Is it legal to catch crayfish and crabs in or from the Port Elizabeth harbour wall? And is it legal to use the following traps?
