Platboom, Rooi Krans and Cape of Good Hope all of the above are in Cape point, You can also try Scarbrough and Mistykliffs and if you keen on a bit of a swim soet water there are some monsters out there but its one hell of a swim to get to where they are and you very seldom get clean water but when it happens its worth the swim.

West Coast.... Paternoster/Tietisbaai... good cray big..but water is unpreditable (think thats spelt right) also Trekkoskraal... Varkenvlei butthere are some big shark there..but it makes it all the better to dive and have that rush of not knowing when you will be coming face to face with a Cow or Bronzie....

Saldanha... If you can get a permit from the reserve officer at the Navy base. Best and easiest place to catch, can start putting them in your bag while still knee deep. and then  also swart riet... both photos are from the base

Mosselbaai doesnt have crayfish, only starts a bit more south and then ont the West Coast

Anyone knows how long crays will survive in 40L fish tank?  Just got a nice welcome home present from a friend - 4 nice big ones sharing the space.

Great idea to keep them alive - much preferred to frozen ones.  Now we can strech that Cray Braai over days!

do you have to get a special permit from the officer or can you just use the normal permits we have? why is that so

Do you need a permit or permision to get into Varkenvlei as I'm going up to Trekkoskraal next weekend and I wanted to go catch some flatties and sand sharks in the area, where would you suggest?

I've dived Infanta a few times and never seen kreef there, although we weren't particularly looking for them. The reef vegetation also doesn't "look" like the kind that you would normally find kreef in.

Try Hole in the wall in the East Cape (Transkei) any spot plenty of crayfish - big.  Water is clear and calm good conditions for diving.  Locals are diving for crayfish and bringing to the camps to sell on a daily basis (morning and afternoons) about 60 - 150 per session.  They are selling big ones for R12-00 each and the small ones are given away for free!!!

No regulations or permits as there are not control police or goverment officials to monitor - this apparantly is standard practice in the Transkei! The locals are saying that even if they catch 500 a day it will have noeffect what so ever on the crayfish population?!  We do not believe this and thus is not buying more than the quote and we also do not touch the small ones but as previously said if you don't buy what they caught they are just throwing it away - not back in the sea.

So if you want to dive try Hole in the Wall - there is nice accommodation as well as a hotel (not luxurious) but good standard.

Hope this will help
