Guys, the folk at Puntjie is very sticky about who gets to enter. You may be faced with some old ballie giving you a lot of grief if found there without the presence of a Puntjie resident. Let's face it, this is not the kind of vibes you'd like to be faced with as you're about to go fishing....

There is a very nice slipway just up the river from Puntjie just before Kleinfontein. No-one will bother you if you launch there and it far less trickier than Puntjie. (many of the Puntjie holiday makers launch at the slip at Kleinfontien in anyway, because of the level of difficulty of launching in Puntjie.) Launching with a 4x4 is definitely recommended at both slips.

Regarding fishing in the Duiwenhoks; fishing can be good at times, but the river is very temperamental. The best spot is up the river just past Kleinfontein around the first bend.

hi everyone i am a resident of vermaaklikheid (duiwenhoks river) area and have been fishing there since i was about 4 years old. about the public slipway over the puntjie slip: the slip at puntjie isnt in great condition and it is quite hard to luanch there. the public slipway just up river is very good and my family has often luanched there without a 4x4, so i would recomend luanching your boats there.

there are quite a lot of good fishing spots on the river and along the coast. in the river there is a spot called "843" which is around the first corner, past the dunes, from the public slipway. i myself have cuaght an 8.9 kg kob there and loads of 2-6 kg ones, i would either use a chokka bait with lots of movement, or a harder livebait.
further up river there is another spot called Palm tree bend where the record cob has been cuaght on the river, livebait an hour after the tide starts to drop, this is tge best bait and time to fish this spot. in the mouth of the river you can catch large rays on basically any bait, we have cuaght our biggest on livebait. along the coast towards witsand and especially towards the mouth of the river you can catch big cob, without a long cast, so it is perfect for begginer surf anglers. along the coast you can catch a lot of sharks, bronze bream, elf, wildeperd, belman and others.

you can pump prawn on the banks towards the mouth and livebait is not hard to get hold of either with a thrownet.:wfish

there are plenty of fish and yes the wind does blow but not as bad as in witsands.

if any of you guys are there in december i will probably be there so give me a ring and i will show you around the area. tom Thorne 0824408317.
