I am a little lost .......Help !

The shad season is officially closed, however I have seen many expirienced anglers still targeting Garrick with shad as live bait. I just want to know if this is legal, as the fish is still alive and " back in the ocean".

The other query is with regards to the bag limits..... Shad for instance is four fish per person per day or four fish in your posession at any given time.

hi, 4 is the limit at any given time. even if you brought it from freezer. Shad cannot b eused for Garrick now. Mullet and garrick plugs would be your best option

This is the response I received from Wayne Munger(Conservation Officer) of KZN Wildlife, regarding your question:

Shad,

1. The Marine Living Resources Act states clearly that one may not in closed season have it on a line, as live bait, in live wells or capture shad.

2. The bag limit for shad is 4 per person at any one time. That means you may not stock pile shad ie you may not keep in your deep freeze and accumulate.
