Hi Guys. How does one go about applying for a MMSI

DSC word al 'n hele ruk gebruik maar die kursusse moet eers nou aangebied word met die DSC module ook in dit is hoekom nou moet opgradeer na die nuwe tickets.

As.dinge reg uitwerk wil ons die kursusse in PE ook aanbied.

I realise that DSC is operational, but lets return to the original question about DSC being available to South African owners, not the rest of the world.

I have made quite a lot of enquiries since my original post and can confirm that:

DSC for the radios is not yet "in operation" They are not giving out MMSI numbers yet.

I have been led to believe that it will be available soon. As early as June this year.

I am speaking from a recreational point of view. (Radio on Ski boat)

Skakel ICASA met jou radio lisensie en call sign en hulle allokeer 'n MMSI nommer vir jou. Dan programmeer jy daardie nommer in jou radio, maak net seker jy maak nie 'n fout nie ek dink jy kry dit nie weer uitgevee as 'n fout gemaak het nie

Ek het net gou 'n distress boodskap gestuur en op 'n ander radio die foto gevat, ek het nie die GPS aangeskakel nie so die koördinate sal nie wys nie. Moet nie bekommerd wees nie dit is regte radios maar hulle kan slegs sowat 10 tot 15 meter uitsaai so niemand anders sou die distress Boodskap ontvang nie

Yes you need a licence and if you have a current licence, you need to have it cancelled and it is not an easy thing. you need to write a letter, stating the reason why you no longer require it and the when you take the letter to ICASA, they will seal your radio in a little bag.
