Hi guys,

Hoping to get some assistance from the fundis out there.

Our one motor just clicks now when we try trim/tilt it. The other is hundreds.

This is what we have done so far:

Replaced corrosive cables with new ones.
Checked fuses - all good
Checked connections - all good

They have been working perfectly for the last 7 years and all of a sudden the one goes.

The boat is currently moored in DBN marina.

Is there anything else we can check for before we haul her out?

Thanks in advance

Hi the clicking you are hearing is probably the Relay closing and opening, is there 12V on the Relays terminal, is there not a main fuse before the Relay that may have blown which would mean the switch is switching but there is no power to switch on the Trim/Tilt motor?

relays:

power is always present on the terminals.
when a relay is activated, the normal open contact is pulled closed.
thus one piece of metal comes in contact with another, but electricity is present.
when they do make contact, a electrical arc is indeed generated.

arching of electrical contact points have a tendency to build up carbon.
carbon is a poor conductor of electricity.

thus ultimately the contacts do pull in, but fail due to non conducting of electricity.

a sealed contact should last much longer as there is no oxygen to assist with the carbon build up!!!

it is most likely the relay.
