Hi guys

Have been to 'Die gruis' at uilenkraalsmond on the weekend of 17 Jan 2014 and had a good 2 hour session in the afternoon.

With a light SE blowing and the water working nicely over the back bank, condition were goog for cob. I have just made some changes to my hook setup (Thanks to Trophy's bling bling) and it certainly paid dividends.

The hook setup with the bling bling i.e. skirt

The poensie was 44cm and was successfully released.

Going there on the 10th of Feb for 2 weeks! Can't wait!

Very nice catches. Was there very early Sunday morning and got stuck into a school of undersize cobbies at the wreck. Was mayhem for a while....all safely released.

Keen Fisher_001, caught my biggest cob (9kg) just to the left of the wreck near those kelp 3 years back. Caught these at the stomp! Water was cristal clear at the wreck at that time!

I'll send you a message on Monday morning as to how the fishing went. We coming back on Sunday afternoon. Going to have a few sessions for cob as well as steenbras. A friend of mine stays there and says he has caught decent steamers already.

Thats great news!! Do you have an idea where he caught the steamers and on what bait?? Looks like the weather will hold!

Good luck!

Kanaal , that's a Very Very Nice trace you Made . I've also Started Experimenting with something i Saw shawn do .
Is that a simple Knot you've tied just before The Red skelm hook , to prevent it from sliding down and distorting the Float section ?

what thickness Mono are you using . Would It not make a weak spot at The Overhand Knot ?

i do the Same on my steel Traces .use a steel Crimp collar .
Realy a Nice Eds trace though.

Hi Def-e-nition

Thanks man. I did a few experiment myself and this has really worked for me.  I'm using .66 Siglon Fluorocarbon. Never had any problem. Quite a stiff line, but it works for me.

Yes, just a small overhand knot, and yes, it does weaken the line but it will still be stronger than your mainline so it doesn't really make a difference. At this moment i'm using 0.45mm Giant abrasion.

Cant remember where I saw it or read it, but someone mentioned that they use an ear bud and cut of the ends and trim to the length needed and place that between the two hooks. That hasn't worked for me. The peace of blue plastic stil gives away and distorts the flotation.

I'm so keen to get out there to get a line in the water!
I also had a look at your trace, I will be making a few of them this evening to try this weekend. looks very impressive!

Hope the steamers are around!

Hi Def
You can use a nail knot as stopper, no chance of damaging the mono like when using a crimp or overhand knot.

I do a nail knot around the hook snoot where I want the stopper. Pulled tight and with both tag ends cut it sits solid.

OOOOH! So you use an extra piece of line to make the stopper in the form of a nail knot!

Now I understand! Great idea!

Thanx
