You can also get the shop to order a spare spool for you for around R 400. It is worth it. That 10 ft Nexave is a nice feeling rod especially for R 600.

I agree a spare spool is paramount, and I too agree that 10' does feel good and seems pretty well balanced for the Stradic 5000.   The 10' is now on special here for R499 one pays 3 x for this type of quality rod in other brands and models, so well worth the spend.

Also Feb - May is a great time to spin on a late afternoon Neap Tide when the water isn't pushing hard. Friend of mine has great success and picks awesome Leeries at the river mouths in EP.

So very excited to give it a go in April.

Thought I would let you know your advice was valuable, thank you. The Stradic 5000FJ was really good value for money with its new features. I hadnt't looked at that until you mentioned it. It is a beautiful reel, compact with all one needs. Sky is the limit as to what one can spend , so one has to draw the line somewhere. I will just get a spare spool. The older model came with a spare spool but the FJ doesnt.

Also your point on the rod is very valid, I can upgrade that at a later stage.
