Hi Guys & Gals

Terry, there are about as many hooks with different applications as there are cars on the market. And each one has their pro's and cons.

I grew up wit the skelmhoek, but in the competitive environment the focus is on only a few hooks which are sharpened in a specific method of forging the metal fibres together into a point that is ultra sharp.

Then it also depends what type of carp angling you are practicing. For conventional the hook size of choice is the 0.8

I also grew up with the skelm hooks and when i do social like to still use them..

i now use the diachi #3 and moving to the #2 but this weekend i almost lost a 3kilo carp as i netted it the #2 hook broke. it was a first for me .. so when you go to 0.8 as JPS says most use. maybe start with a #3 and work your way there..

i found the skelm has a way of turning when it is piced up and will (usually) sit in the bottom lip..

it also has a "suspension" due to its elasticity which helps it staying stuck and not breaking.

when fishing a skelm i do a #8 and put one pip in the front and a dough backing .. then I PEL (POS EN LOS) for hours.. waiting for the hog to arrive..

for comp you need to cater for anything to pick up your hook . so smaller is better..
