Hi guys! Does anybody have any info on what the diving is like in Witsand or the surrounding area? Will be there this weekend, really keen on getting in the water! Apparently sharks are a bit of a problem? Any info will be much appreciated!

I have only dived on the other side, off Infanta from the slip. Was a fantastic dive. Might be a little early but if u lucky u might spot the odd cracker. There lots of gallies and other reefies. Spoken to a few divers who stay there and they are very rarely harassed by the sharks. Look i wouldnt dive if the water is dirty. I know of some really experienced divers who actually swim out the mouth. Not something i would do but just to show that the Breede shark stories are often blown out of proportion.

Thanks for the info guys! I'm still quite new to the sport, anything I should know about cracker? or tips on how to get one if i happen to get lucky and bump into a couple of them? What other species are there? Where would be a good place to go in from infanta? Will only be doing shore dives... Really excited though!

Hi Wanan

We will be up there on the weekend, the swell looks a bit hectic early on the weekend but perhaps there is a chance later sun and monday. looking  a bit doubtful. If you want to know the water conditions you can ph Justin 0824678877 he will let you know if its divable or not , Infanta can be sterile with little fish life but at times can hold some fish depending on the water conditions , get in at the slipway and you have a choice of swimming to the point or towards rondeklip eitherway is ok depending on the viz. I have dived there plenty and have not had shark issues but a freind has had a bad run in with a big Zambizi so like anywhere in the w/cape you need to be careful.

good luck see you in the water

Just spoke to my brother the water is clearing up abit but he also says that only diveble days will prob be sunday and monday.

A Cracker can be a tackle buster but just shoot for the spine or place a good hed shot then ull be fine remember to aim small and u will hit that small area.

Practice and do some more practice its the only way to learn.

Just be carefull of witsand shore dives witsand has a lot of currents that can pull out to sea.

Greetings

I dived Infanta on the weekend, temperature was 12.7 degrees, so no cracker around.  It's ging to have to warm up quite a bit, I think, before there are cracker around.
