Live bait is legal in natal, THANKFULLY. Double checked this weekend with both Msinsi and natal parks. So i am free to use it with out having to look over my shoulder, lol. I belive dorsal used a close to 3kg fish the other week and caught a 7kg barbel. I could be mistaken but i think thats right. So GC i will disagree with you on size. Look to the size you are targeting and what a fish like that can actually fit in its mouth. It all comes down to the fact that a living vreater is lazy, i put it to you this way, if there is a coke and a pie 2m from you but a roast chicken in the fridge and your hungry, i bet you that 8 out of 10 of us are not even going to consider the chicken but got for the pie. WHY? its closer and we naturally re designned to spend the kleast amount of valuble energry to get food. Or use the least amount to get the greater gain. Same with a fish. You get a 28kg fish, he wants to eat once or twice a day. If he was to eat a 1kg fish or smaller he would have to eat more often and expend more energy and in the long run use more energy gathering food than he gains from the food he has eaten. These guys are looking for a free meal anytime they can. So guys in the short of it, if you know your dam holds a 30kg fish use bait for a 30kg fish, 3kg carp as a cheetha special or as a dead ground bait, is 1 tenth of this monster overall weight, thats nothing in the long run. It will fit into his mouth like a bar one, and give him that 25 hour day, lol. But again the best way to see what is to big or to small is to get to the water and find out.
