Hi Guys,

Anyone got any tips on how to tie hooks onto normal steel wire.

I have tried the normal figure 8 loop but lets just say it leaves alot to be desired and judging by the way it looks i wouldnt trust it to keep a black tail on.stpime2

I only use a Figure 8 and use it from 30lbs to 500lbs steel cable.

No it doesn't close 100% on the really heavy stuff so leave a tag end of 3-5mm and when you hook a huge fish all that happens is it pulls closed ever so slightly but it will never pull open

The key to knots in wire and thick (1mm+) nylon is to anchor the hook or swivel and pull tight with a pliers (preferably 2 pliers)

Practise practise Practise .

Fig 8 is as deadly as they come , and the reason it looks like a dog's breakfast is that you didn't Finish YOUR breakfast before pulling it toit like a toiger . Make the knotfar up from your hook , pull it tight and then slide it down to avoid any kinks above the hook . Annoys the crack out of me when that happens . you dont pull on the Main end you hold that around your wrist and yank with pliers on the Tag End . bob's your uncle , roberts yer brother ..

Once That's done , it's as solid as malema's Defence in court .

In my experience the flemish knot is much easier for a person that is inexperienced in tying knots in wire!!!

I struggled my ass of at first to.Figure of 8 is deff the most secure and easy to tie in my opinion to.Make the knot and then pull tight as u can as enigma says the fish will pull it completly tight. Then finish with a few twists around the main line.Clamp the hook or swivel to one clamp and pull the steel tight and clamp in another clamp. It stops the swivel from twisting and having two hands free makes twisting even 200pound wire easy.
