I think i'm gonna buy a Assassin Amia 11ft if i manage to find one quickly...
But i'm not sure which one...Heavy with or whithout microguide , or Xheavy...
Now it's time to work hard to find a good reel not so expensive =)

I would probably recommend the Heavy as it would be okay for European fishing also. If you could find a 4 piece with a rod tube even better as it is smaller to take back with you to France.
I would look for a shimano reel like a Stradic.

Dude...i'm fishing with lures from 5grs up to 350 grs so be sur i'll find a way to use it in France 
The choice between H and XH should be based on the lures i'll use here but i'm not yet sure...You just can't imagine how i'm discovering a new world of fishing here !

Hummmmmm...i've spent the last week watching videos and reading about fishing from the shore on your coasts...I JUST CAN'T WAIT ANYMORE !
Funny how Assasin's rods are unknown in Europe,they seems to be really good, and i think the Amia 11ft will soon become my favorite rod for seabass in France !
Do you think it will do the job with this reel ?

Do take a small rod 6 to 8ft with your 2500 size reel. when the big guys (fish) dont play do some scratching from the rocks. you will be amazed at what you get sometimes. and its good fun.
Regarding offshore fishing. if you are relatively fit. Let Markus from Guided seafaris or Mick Clarke from Kayakfishing S.A take you out for some kayak fishing. its not expensive and you will have a life changing expierence. will post details if your interessted.

I would not mind showing you some of our local species as I know how it feels going to Spain with a language barrier...not that you have one! I will be okay on Sunday 21st but yes then I do work in the week... Lets see what happens closer to the time and we take it from there...if all else fails I will give you the names of a couple of places to try out.

Hi there Rolfe......as a matter of interest....Do you think that the company manufacturing the Assassin Sierra blanks will sell blanks individually or will it be a matter of exclusive rights to Assassin only ?
Should it be available , what do you think one will look at ito paying etc ?
The thought was to obtain the blank only, & make up yr own rod in SA.........maybe a way to do it a bit cheaper.............only if it was feasible. (Just a wild chance)

Those blanks will be exclusively made for the factory that builds Assassin rods. Although blanks are rolled in France (again AFAIK), the rods are built in China so it would be like trying to buy a set of guides direct from Fuji! The blanks are a component not a product - the China factory probably wouldn't even sell them to Assassin. They are in the rod-building business after all...
I know a little about rod pricing and let me say that if you were buying the same spec rod from a Japanese or European brand you'd easily be paying double. I've used some of the best Japanese SW shore spinning rods made (Daiwa Morethan Branzino, Graphiteleader and Tenryu - all R7-10k in today's ZAR) and the Sierra's are (a) streets ahead in design terms for our conditions and (b) great value for money.
Basically you cannot buy a blank and build an equivalent rod for what you'll pay for a Sierra - not even close.
If you want to build something of same quality but slightly different and money is no object then you can get a high quality T-Russell Shore Game 11' blank from Matagi in Japan (they sell huge range of rodbuilding kit) which will land at R3.5k. Century (UK blank maker) do a range of brilliant Striper blanks for the US market (check out Hatteras Jack, they are stockists) which will land around R5k (US$250 + shipping + VAT).
A lot of us have brought in Major Craft rods and they are (or were!!) great value but with recent Yen/ZAR movements a middle of the road MC Shore Game equivalent will land at R4.5k.
Sadly living where we do it's 'Die wet van Transval'...
There is one trick left open to you - look at some of the local Carp rods - I've handled some quite inexpensive 10-11' carp sticks that would serve very nicely as Shore Game rods if rebuilt. A dirty little secret is that a number of those Century Striper rods are just rebadged carp rods...don't tell them I told you....

Hi Ben - CTS rods I referred to only in the US. I wouldn't make a specific recommendation but start with the Sensation Carp rods - you'll likely find some options there. Also they do sell SW spinning rods but you need to give them a wiggle. Sadly for you all you can wiggle in Zululand is sugarcane...

That question might be better answered by one of the rod builders on the forum but what I have noticed is that carp rod butts are too long and handles are typically too thin for comfortable spinning (you keep the butt section under your arm so you need a bit of meat there) and the guide trains are sometimes unnecessarily heavy. Shorter butt, bigger grips and K guides will sort that out.
I guess you could build up the butt with tennis racquet grip and put X shrink wrap over that instead of rebuilding with cork or a new EVA grip which is a schlep to do. This way you could use your carp rod at the coast and pull everything off when you got home!

After reading this interesting info I am even more in love with my Assassin Sierra, especially now that mine has the KR concept guides on!
