Thanks Nobbles! What I am actually wondering about or trying to find out is what nutrition the cats prefer at certain times of the year. Obviously protein is always on top of the list but maybe they "prefer" A higher fat/oil content just before winter and maybe higher protein less fat just before summer? This might be over analizing or over complicating things A bit but maybe not hehe. Sometimes they might prefer food for instant energy (spawning?) or sometimes they might prever just building up their fat stores (end autum)? I know they cant realy choose what to eat most of the time but I think it might help if one can find out exactly what they want/need at specific times. A sardine or platti or chick are all good baits but they differ when it comes to all the nutritional values they have. It is A good Idea to take all 3 baits with to see whats going to work but I think if one can go A bit further and allready know what will work before hand one can divercify even more. Say if on the day you find that the chicks are working best it might have helped to have had chicks doves and say weavers for argument sake to choose from. If its fish theyre after it might have helped to have had 3 or 4 different fish to use to see what works best. Hope I am explaining this the way I am thinking! Maybe it wont make any difference at all and will be better just staying with the basics we know but I prefer to at least try and get some ideas and opinions before trying or disregarding any ideas you know what I mean.

Kosie i like the way you think. Most certainly cats are looking for different food sources at different times. This is also why certain baits work better at one time rather than another. Coming out and going itnto winter your oily fatty baits, for me work great. Sardine etc. But consitantly fish and birds work all year. But if we can start to do more work on what is best at these times than we will no doubt start to get that stike rate up and weight up as well. Also i have noticed that in certain dams the different species of fish get a different bite to others. In shongweni Tilapia get eaten a couple hours before bass. But bass out perform tilapia at albert falls. Carp also not a favorite in gweni. But when i go into the shallows to get bait the only species you see is tilapia, absolutely nothing else. So i look know at my fishing dam per dam, what species is the most abundant, a quick walk in the sahllows normally gives me a good idea. I than target that species to get bait. My baby chickens i make sure i skin, and you can see the layer of fat around them. This gets me a quicker bite rate that if that fat comes off with the bird.

But i love the way you are thinking, if we carry on along those lines the information we will gather will be immense and we can only build our sport int something really special.

Yes Nobbles I think because of the limited choice in natural food available what the cats are eating at that specific venue at that specific time should allways be one of the best to use (if you can get some that is). To try and imitate it will be another story but thats what Im trying to do. We'll get there eventually.

Innovation is the key to success. I love it when some say something wont work. I just think to myself, yes it will and ill bloody prove it aswell. My biggest advantage is the dams i fish, i generally know them well enough and the theory ive been testing is starting to look promising, so i know that at a certain structure point in the dam ill find fish, its just a matter of fining that bait. Cracking the code as skuim says.

But the more we experiment the more we learn the more the sport grows. Just wish i didn not have a day job so i could get all my crack pot ideas to the water to test, lol.
